Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Possible Legal Labor Issues

I was let go recently, there were about 15 folks in my group, two of us were let go. We were the oldest in the group - it feels that we were singled out due to our age (and corresponding compensation that reflected experience).

What do you think, would we stand a chance if we were to fight HAL on the basis of age discrimination? I am torn as I had a good 20 year long run here and I am 2 years from retirement. I've lived a frugal life and have enough saved - so, money for me is not a driver. I really feel that an injustice took place and would love this to became an example for future.

What are your thoughts.

Actually signing the waiver does NOT prevent you from filling with the federal EEO. My prior large aerospace company did the same thing but lo and behold the fed EEO isn't swayed by the "waiver/severance package". Remember there is a time frame of 180 days to file with EEOC. Good luck.

First off, do they give you a WARN notice as required by law? Or do they lay you off and offer 60 day pay in lieu of the 60-day notice? As for your age, you need to know who is listed in your org structure under your title. If under your org structure there are other sites than yours, you may find younger (under 40) that were laid off. If no other site in your org structure, and no other under 40 with same job title then GO FOR IT! I again want to mention the WARN notice. It's a federal law - check it out!!

For what it's worth I'm near retirement and have the feeling I will also get escorted out soon. But in my mind I have already come to terms with it in case it happens. I've done my best for 30+ years and have no regrets. My supervisor is nice to my face but I know the younger ones are the ones he caters to. I'll take the package and move on. I'm ready for some no stress R&R. Enjoy yours too. I don't see anyway you can beat it so don't stress. Life is short.

If you signed a waiver so you can get severance than you can't sue. Did you even read it before you signed it? Sad to say there is not much you can do.
