Last year the people laid off were done so based on the "vital curve" method. With seemingly all A/B people left, how do these next rounds get decided? Is it purely cost sensitive now (based on the pricing concessions & lack of work). I read previous comments made about spreadsheets & tabs with various different variables. But could this be a different algorithm then cuts before?

It's up the the accounting department now. Each PSL will have their asset-utilization metrics completed. Competencies-cost will be looked at, and necessary measures will be taken. Department heads will then have meetings on how the restructuring takes place. What assets to keep & which to decommission. This has now gone beyond fat trimming. It's full out survival mode. Even a large company like Halliburton is feeling the pain, because shareholders want ROI or else they will pull their funds & go elsewhere. With the lack or cash flow from even the best projects, I would suspect older hands get nailed first. 25% from the top, 25% from the bottom, & 50% from the middle. IMHO
Engineers have been the target by the insecure.
The business of the company comes second.
I would say the friends/family comment is spot on. I switched PSLs last year so I was new to my department in the GoM. I was the ONLY engineer in my department working on a LIVE project. I got laid off while a number of useless people who have known the manager for yearsand years continue to be employeed...
Look at The stock point Port Fourchon. They have some of the biggest idiots you'll ever come across in your life at Baroid. The Service Coordinator from MS is the most arrogant and useless individual in HALLIBURTON. He's also got a few of his boys from MS and AL in secure positions. It's all about who you know. HMS and personal accountability are out the window at Baroid in Port Fourchon.
Agree completely with first reply. But, if you need data driven results for peace of mind, write an algorithm that correctly picks nepotism and good old boy connections. And then my friend, you can rest easy in your knowledge.
Family is A, good friends are B in this next round.
I have seen a managers brother be an outright failure, cost the company work and is in the top pay grade.
My experience at HAL has always been why the hell aren't the real savings been made in the office. Why are we renting an extra facility employed by 4 people making over $100 000 a year, and not serve one employee.
The most respected senior field hands were laid off, the hardest work ethic were laid off. All the while family and friends trump.
We must have different policies.
