Thread regarding IBM layoffs

I am RA'd - Should I even try to transfer?

Feels like a waste of time. Thoughts and advice please!

Waste of time. After you got the notice, vent for a day or so. After that, use your time solely to work on resume, contacting people at other companies and applying for jobs outside of IBM. I was laid off a while back, was devastated for a few days, but then started to ramp up and ended up with some 10 other job opportunities in various stages and with various probabilities. Once RA'd, you are blacklisted, at least within the country you are part of. To my knowledge, you are not blacklisted after an RA in IBM in other countries, but these things probably change from RA to RA.

I know one person who was laid off last year who managed to stay at IBM, out of dozens I talked to. When I was RAed last year I tried a little to stay because I was over 50. You have to be careful though because at least last year you lost your package if IBM offered you a job, even if you refused it. They were very fuzzy on if it mattered where the job was or it it was a demotion or pay cut. Overall, I think it is a waste of time to try.

No, it will not work. It's all smoke and mirrors. Just check out the alliance archives or Watching IBM. Do yourself a favor and devote that time and energy to brushing up your skills and finding a new job outside IBM.
