Super anxious… How do they do it? A phone call? In person meeting? With a manager only? How about HR? What do they tell you and what do you need to prepare? Do you need to leave immediately? Is there anything you can do to change the decision? Anybody has 2 cents here?

First got a transfer offer or be no longer employed (with no mention of severance as to avoid WARN Act by retaining a half dozen from each camp) then the same thing happened but severance was offered only if I sign a non-disclosure agreement (all severance is a lump sum of a wk/yr upfront of your salary vs weekly) you can't get unemployment till severance weeks pass - so f--- them I didn't sign it and get $465 per wk and can sue their asses or join class action suit if wanted. Never trusted them never will.
Hi guys in USA, this is a terrible time and I too along with several work colleagues were told we were "at risk" a few days ago. Halliburton owes us nothing and we have been paid for our work. It's not the end of the world but can I ask you something. From what I gather from your posts you are basically told youre redundant and sign paper saying you wont sue company and you're marched of your workplace in one day. Is this true or have I picked this up wrongly?
Halliburton really is just a Wal-Mart pay structure for the most part. If you don't get overtime.
A nugget of truth bellow in the words "never come back." It is not worth your time to reapply. There is most likely a do not rehire list.
Yes, you leave IMMEDIATELY after they have completed the termination session. This is NOT a friendship meeting that you can come visit and feel good about. Wake up! They do not care what you have done or how good you were, you are GONE. Some mis-managers will not even know you, they do not care. At that moment they are trying to cover their own butts and save their worthless jobs. Do not be surprised to hear some say some really stupid things to you. We were all told to "get your stuff, get yourself, get your money ( profit sharing ) and get out and never come back". The HR lady nearly had a heart attack on that one. She later quit to get out of this mess too.
They take you down into the basement and they bring out the gimp.
you can request for your manager to leave the room during the termination of employment process. lots of papers to sign and review.
Each manager/office probably does it a bit differently. By the time they come for you, it's a done deal and your best bet is to go quietly. It would be smart to take your favorite personal belongings home, as well as any personal papers or files you keep in your workspace. As someone else mentioned, download any personal files to a thumb drive and delete them from the company server. There is no point second-guessing their decision -- they have their formulas, and there is no point being bitter because you will be free to go and get a nice job in a healthy working environment.
They will come get you and you are done. No going back to fetch things without an escort. Best to pull all your personal items and take them home ASAP. Have your "Ready Box" prepped to take everything else. There is a much better life beyond Halliburton. Halliburton workers are like slaves. Always have been and always will be.
Like the persons below but another story.
You are working on your computer, your supervisor comes by and says get your coat and keys and come with me. I BARELY had time to hit "Windows key + L" to lock my PC. I could not touch anything else.
We went to a room where the HR lady, nice lady BTW, was waiting with a Red Envelope for hourly and green for Salaried.
Your manager is there and announces to you all due to budget cuts this is your last day with the company. The HR lady gives you the paperwork and you look it over and initial it.
You are escorted out the door and you make a time to come back and get all your personal items.
A word of advice, Purchase the thumb drive and copy any personal files off your computer. I had tax info, paycheck stubs and SSI numbers, etc. Delete once copied. I did the the day before not REALLY knowing. But it paid off. All my personal files were off the PC.
At first, about 60 seconds, it was a shock. BUT after that you realize there is nothing you can do and begin to relax and start thinking about what you want to do in the future.
I hope this helps. If you are in a big city there are plenty of jobs to be had NOT in the oil business.
Mine has always been a call from a conference room. If you have caller ID on your phone and you get a call from "conference room XXX", get ready. Bring Vaseline.
Agree with all below. The truth is that nearly everyone will be laid off at some point in their life. Just focus on what you can control. Always have irons in the fire. Always have resumes circulating.
Great reply
You need to relax. But to answer your questions generally hr will call
You on your phone or your manager will call and ask you to accompany them. You can't prepare anything as there is nothing to prepare. They will go over your severance compensation, make you sign something saying you won't sue them or else you forfeit all benefits and then you will be escorted out immediately. Your manager will go back to your desk to retrieve anything important (your keys, purse, wallet, etc...) hand it to you or security, then you are gone. They will then pack up what remains in your desk that's yours and mail it to you in a box. You sound like a kid, or someone that's never been laid off. There is life after your laid off. Ya it sucks but if you try and aren't a lazy ass you will find something else.
