I'm currently on MyWork, so one of the ones being headhunted, and I work many more hours now than when I was in an office. I'll log in early to get a start on the day. A lot of times I'll work through lunch, just eating at my desk. I'll also work past my "leave time", or just leave my laptop on and check emails every now and then during the evening. Why, it's convenient to do so. Also, its me paying back for having such flexibility. Fighting for days off has been reduced because I feel if I work from home, then those that can't or don't should get the ones around the holidays they want...again, since I'm grateful to work from home. Being in IT I've had off-shore meetings very early in the morning (2-3am my time) or late at night (10-11pm) my time, and didn't get upset because it was from my home....it's been about a balance, which I was grateful for.
So yes, I in particular was way more productive because I didn't have commute time back and forth or didn't need to take a lunch to "get away from it all". If I were to go back into the office, it'd be strictly 8-5pm...no more, no less because then my free time would be MY FREE TIME..instead of blending life/work so both sides win.
And as for BoA saying it's about team synergy...that is out and out BS. I know many teams still split up geographically, people being brought into offices where they aren't around their team or even their LOBs..JUST TO HAVE THEM IN THE OFFICE. And if proximity is their reason, why off-shore a large portion of work??
They pushed MyWork big time back in 2008 - 2010, had support teams set up, big meetings to talk about going on it and NOW they want to get rid of it...and not only that, but are trying to find ways to get out of paying severance for those on MyWork by finding a "condition of work" loophole. And YES I have sources that have confirmed this by being in meetings where this was discussed...BoA would never admit to this, but it's true. They don't know if they can to it, but they are trying. So want to punish all those that took advantage of a program they preached about earlier...that's the issue I have with all of this.
RIFs impact us all, and as employees we are a team (or were until Exec Mgmt created this contentious culture) so we should support each other. MyWork has taken a spotlight on this board because THAT group is being specifically hunted over all others. It would be like Mgmt tell us to take vacation so we don't burn out, then laying us off because we actually took it and weren't available 24/7...which who knows they may do one day. I know people scared to take it now.
Good luck to all the BoA team!
