Thread regarding Sears layoffs

So sad!

Sad, sad day, everyday at the store. The store appearance is dim and dreary. Leaks and water stains on the ceiling tiles even the ones that were replaced. Dust bunny tumble weeds and debris on the floor and carpets. Only one person from the cleaning crew doing the whole store, can't even tell if the store is being cleaned. Skeleton staff trying to keep up. Everyday theft because of cashwraps not being staffed. Departments look pathetic. People jumping ship and anybody applying for a job is just plain desperate. Plus it doesn't take them long to get bored with the little amount of foot traffic and the new comers are gone before they even get started. No raises for the past 6 years or longer. Bleeding out! Sinking ship! Give up already!

The down fall of retail is online shopping sears isnt the only one. Sears is a easy target. Sears has said they were going to close 200 stores 2 years ago and stil hasnt. Jc penny's , macy has closed stores with no press release. and pride of people. The work force isn't the same . The younger work force has a sense of entitlement nor understand the business world . You have prove your self to get pay . Amazon is going to be way to shop. The brick and mortar isnt the way to shop . If amazon goes to a store front setting is going to be the down fall . But when did the value of the money become more than important value of family . Most stores in retail would be profitable if the Bleu law was in effect . Sears is a iconic name and the brands craftsman is still a top brand for tools. Recently my sears store I work for saw a massive increase in hand tools sale in the last year. A harbor freight store open up a block away . All the Sears nah sayers Bragg how there tools are cheaper . Chinese tools are cheaper in every way possible and residential issue. And for the service repairs sears does carry in especially We are a dying breed to do it . It's not a money maker . Why don't think home depot, Lowe's , Walmart don't have that option in there System not a win win . I see more equipment from those I send for repairs . And most of it user error from not knowing how to use a product . No retailer can have a employee explain a product fully in a hour on useage and trouble . A good retail store (profitable ) members are in and out . So good customer service is counter productive to be good retailer .

'No pride in America', huh? Wow. What a way for that poster Susan to make Sears' downfall into a race issue. That's the Donald Trump argument right there. Having said that, Sears inching closer to going under is related to incompetent managment whether at the corporate, regional, or store level, coming up with a confusing rewards program, as well as inventory management, unlike Sears, JCP ships out freight based on store inventory which makes it easier to put out product on the floor and have easier to maintain stockrooms, and having both their online and in-store inventories match. Sears did neither of that. They also kept holding on to the clothing lines when it was clear that it was a money loser. Also, how employees were treated by management or hiring the wrong people for the job(s). There is so much to list that I'm already exhausted and will leave it there. As a former employee of the company it's embarrassing and sad to see them go into abyss. And it's all because of the wrong people in charge at Hoffman Estates and not because of 'No pride in America'.

has nothing to do with "pride in AMerica". Those people who work at SHC stores are not stupid. They can see that they'll be kicked aside soon enough. The stores look like crap even apart from housekeeping issues. The merchandise is unattractive and poorly displayed.

No pride in America! Are you kidding me. The reason that this country is going the way it is is exactly what you see at Sears. A rich guy not caring about a once great company, only wanting to make money for himself and his funds. Not caring about the worker (no raises in 8 years), no incentive to to any work because if you work hard, do more than is required you still get paid the same as the lazy a** who is doing nothing. Stores that are falling apart, no company support or loyalty. Equipment and computers that are at least 15 years old or older, dangerous working conditions, layoffs, benefit cuts, less workers to do the work, less hours to get the work done, endless meetings to talk about the next thing that Sears is going to try to stay in business (it's like the weather: give it a few months and they will change their minds). Now we have to do routine maintenance and cleaning of our store because the company is not going to pay for it.

It is not about Pride in America it is about workers being fed up with the employers, fed up with being taken advantage of, fed up with being blamed for the problems of the company, fed up with working hard and going nowhere, fed up with giving 15, 20, 30 years to a company and getting nothing in the end---just a pink slip.

No "pride in America" ???? Seriously? Way to blame the poor abused workers under Eddie's thumb...no help, no decent management for guidance, but the "to do" lists in the stores just keep getting bigger. Have YOU gone 6 years or more with stagnant wages? Give me a break!

The decline of a store's interior isn't limited to Sears. Many Walmart's are truly disgusting. McDonald's bathrooms are a reason I no longer visit their stores. Take a drive and look at the roadways..be it Texas, Illinois, North Carolina..etc. Trash everywhere. I personally feel it's due to a change in America's demographics. We have many coming from "third world" countries who saw filth every day and have become desensitized to it all. They have no pride in America.
