Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Course Materials Chaos?

I was a course materials manager and was let go earlier in the year. I don't really have any inside connections so I thought this would be a good place to ask: are they getting rid of most of the cm positions? Are they regional course materials people doing the work now? are the regional managers still around and how much hand-on are they having to be?

in some ways, maybe it was good from some of the things i've seen on here but you don't know what is true and what is not true sometime on the layoffs

I don't think Retalon was the problem. The problem was with Follett management and GT. They stopped the project mid-stream, and turned it on before it was ready. GT said "we need to first see the benefits of the system, before we complete the project". That's what caused the disaster.

When you bake a cake, you can't just take it out of the oven, eat it while liquid, and then blame the person who made the batter, for it being half baked. The person who made the decision to take it out of the oven and eat it before it was cooked, is responsible.

Built by the brightest minds that Follett could hire from India.

We are up to CTWeb. Wait until you see it and understand what it does! It is the future of text management allowing many new capabilities.

Because eliminating the person who brings in course materials is a better way to serve the customer.

RCMS are not doing all the CM work, it fell back to the SM and other store staff unless the store is big enough to still support a CM of their own. They reduced the number of RMs and RCMS positions too. Have not heard of CM layoffs in general but the stores doing under a million are losing all sort of positions and facing downgrades.

Thank goodness they realized that store managers know what books sell at their stores. Last year was a disaster Retalon was horrible. Oh my gosh they sent books we knew we didn't need and supplemental materials that were useless. No we don't order 100% class enrollment for obvious reasons. Hope this year runs smoother

For now the text responsibilities are going back to the store and away from home office, they did away with the central CM team at home office. After the disaster that was Retalon, they realized they can't make the decisions from afar. We will see how long this way of thinking lasts. And of course, if your store does less than a million in sales there is no telling what they will do.

Our CM retired 2 years ago, no replacement! Store Manager and associates are doing the work , no extra compensation and no raise this year. Regional manager GONE. That work load given to a district manager from another area.. broadened the territory. Also text manager GONE. Best wishes to you.
