Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Good Job BoD....It's about damn time.......

It's been obvious Ron needed to go for awhile, before buying OD even came up.

With the stock in the gutter, the failed buyout (not even stating a case...really?) and the shareholder meeting approaching it would have been difficult not to dismiss Ron.

I am uncertain if the board knows or cares about the negative culture prevalent in Staples at this time, but hopefully removing or demoting the top three execs involved with it will start a healing process.

Shira - keep it going. Top execs and SVP's are gone, do not stop there. Look hard and long at the RVP level. Consolidate or replace them. A big part of the mess has been cleaned up over the last two weeks. If you leave these RVPs in place the mess will respawn like black mold. (Looking at you Vinnie).

"Look hard and long at the RVP level" I could not agree with this more! RVP and Area Managers.. much waste there indeed. A few of the core groups are top heavy in management. All, completely afraid of their own shadows because the shadows are even useless.

As many have stated on this board....if a GM and his team ran a store the way Ron and Co. run the company they would be fired in short order.

I was with the contract division of Staples for a number of years and saw the handwriting on the wall. All of their purchases/mergers were mishandled. They bought Corp Ex in 2009 and that was booted too. They always took care of the "side bar" issued but took their eye off the ball when it came to making sure that the business that they paid for was delivered. I saw a lot of CEX business slip through their fingers after they bought it. I remember being at a "Meet The President" about 10 years ago and at the end asked why Staples had not bought the ad rights to the left field wall at Fenway Park. Shira Goodman explained that they had looked at that but decided that it didn't fit with their marketing programs. Every time a hit goes to left field and you see the WBM sign I am reminded of that big screw up.

I would have preferred to see all this done in one fell swoop, Ron, Otis and Vinnie. But there are probably complications preventing that, race being one. Putting him out to pasture in the west was a first step. Hopefully it will only be a quick stop, then out the door.

I feel slightly optimistic that Steve Matyas was made President, NA Retail over Otis. I do not know the exact reasons for this decision, but I'd like to think someone in Framingham is aware of how poor a leader Otis is. I would rather have seen anyone else get the east besides DeSanto (to much nepotism),

but Otis taking a hit is good enough for now.

Hopefully they look at the RVPs next and Vinnie is shown the door. The time for that kind of managing style is over. Hopefully DeSanto sees the writing on the wall and does not protect him.

Also, Watching From Afar, I heard rumors that Brian Legg was let go. I wonder if it had anything to do with Vinnie?

No one will accept any of this until Otis is gone. Shira is looking weak by allowing this racist, actively negative, ignoramus, to survive this... She will need to shuffle him out or close the west (which I think is going to happen) in order to gain respect.

Anonymous below is wrong. There are plans to expand fleet, not contract. Just trolling.

Well, Shira was in charge of commercial when they started SDO closures ( I believe). I don't know if it was here idea, but she did nothing to prevent it.
