Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Here to shop not to browse

Does anyone remember a comment made by one of the higher ups talking about how students are here to buy specific books, and are not here to just browse textbooks?

Follett loves laughing at its customers. It thinks very highly of them.

Bookstores never maid up their bottom line on texts. The margin on textbooks suck. That was one reason Follett had an edge; they owned the buy-back market, too. Used books had a much better margin.

Faculty have a role in the rising cost of education, too. When a text sales person promises freebies to the prof, the prof must has him/herself "if I'm not paying for this service, who is?". The student is paying. The price is built into the book. When books come with tests already compiled, help with resources and lesson plans, the prof's life is easier, but the student pays.

"comical and also satisfying", oh yes sick it to the students to add to their increasing student debts. Publishers and bookstores finding some way to "force" the students to pay for their bottom line. The days of being able to do this are numbered.

Its so comical and also satisfying when they shop elsewhere but return when they received the wrong book or a book with no access code. Well if you bought here in the first place you wouldn't have that problem. Very pleased to sell you the complete package that you need for class.

Good luck finding a first year textbook that is not packaged with an access code.

Reality is that they come in to get the isbns and purchase less expensive elsewhere. They don't want price match that give Follett gift card. On the bright side Follett is stupid enough to rent Textbooks with access codes!!!
