Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel should stop hiring lateral experienced engineers and screw their life

11 years of glorious career, then hired by Intel. Manager and team had no clue which title and position to give for 6-8 months. Left to find my own way in and a job role. found a place to support a team in Austin, team started appreciating my efforts. Got dragged into local office team politics about why am I supporting Austin team more and parent team started feeling offended. Got successful SL4 in my first year, reason? New to team and having no job role for half the year. Started doing even better with the Austin team and even aligned work and deliverables that can benefit parent team. I was hoping this is my year for good review, but unfortunately parent group got impacted by PEG consolidation efforts and site closure. Not much work 4-5 months as it took that much to get clarity and redeployment. Parent group manager left Intel. I got a job in redeployment and brought in Intel SANTACLARA in middle if the year. Manager started acting very strict only with me as if he did a great favor on me bringing me to USA. He knew I can't leave him or Intel if I have to stay in the USA because I was on L1 visa. I did very well in work, learning quickly, improving release flows, automation and gaining confidence of the teams around with timely and quality deliveries. Got successful and SL4 again in my 2nd year, reason? I did extremely well in past 5 months in this new team but since I am new to the team I spent only little time here and shouldn't get discouraged and hope a very very good focal next year. Started working even harder improving the whole system and flows and handling keep chip bringup all alone. Manager didn't stop troubling for no reason, pressurizing on every small opportunity he got. I gave him bad feedback in the MFT, thinking it will go only to the HR and not him directly. I was wrong as it was my first MFT in the USA and was different than the one I use to give in Intel India. Egoistic and highly retaliated manager does heaven and earth to find out who gave the feedback asking each and every employee and even Involving HR who was a good friend of him I guess. He finds out I gave him that feedback. He keeps all my great work and performance aside and hands me a mid year IR. He puts lot of pressure on me to quit immediately or take a CAP under one of his manager. He did this to make sure only this lower level pet manager and he can evaluate the CAP and future feedback a will not go beyond him as he is a SLM now. I took CAP, aced it, worked my assout for 2 months. Given so many awards while executing my CAP. I handled key deliveries and a chip bring up activities all by my own without any help. Did well in the bring up compared to lot other teams involved. As a result I pass my CAP highly successfully, more than set expectations. I was so very hopeful for this years focal. Got successful and NO SL and NO merit increase. Shock of my life. Reason? Both my FLM and SLM didn't know the mid year IR policy which prevents the focal system from giving any merit increase and SL than zero. Both assured me I will be saved and retained at every cost. Got ISP and was walked 3 weeks after the focal delivery. Appeal rejected.

I was never treated this bad by any of my previous companies and was always rated high performer, then how come suddenly I because a low performer in Intel? When I look at it its not me, it's Not Intel, it's the culture and bad managers that are giving such a bad name to this great company. I am going back to my country and am sure will do something good with my life. I feel sorry for folks still under my SLM and wish Intel management does something to fix him and many more like him still there. That's all.

With so much VLSI industry consolidation and Intel buying so many companies which could be the potential employers for people affected with this layoff, now with no rehire policy Intel is encouraging unemployment. Shouldn't this call for a lawsuit? If Altera or Mcafee are core companies for some engineers and though these companies may want to hire some of the affected engineers but because they are Intel now, they can't hire these guys. This i thing is a serious problem and need to be fixed.

When I was hired I was told that I had no defined role and no defined title. My manager would "introduce me" to key people in the division and it was up to me to network with them and beyond to find my own work. No purpose to hire experienced people if you are going to distrust them and treat them like RCGs.

Intel should stick to RCG's hires only and promote from within. Whole company is engrained in the same management style and the INTEL-way that you'd have to gut the whole company and start over to change it.

OP here, my whole team appreciate my work except my SLM because of issues I stated. But unfortunately Appeal team must have talked to my SLM and he would have screwd as usual that's why the appeal got rejected. If they would have spoken to program managers and system as well as core leads I worked with, then they would have got the correct picture.

You don't get it, OP, really you do not??? :-((

Listen, I had the same problem with my FLM and SLM, and I clearly proved that they are lying/fabricating evidences. You can believe me or not (as other people here), but I was able to do something... I stopped HR director for letting me go (last second) as street dog to be kicked out, but I did NOT have 100% success: both FLM and SLM survived their lies: they were rotated (at the same day) on the new duties.

It got me two years after... The whole INTEL environment is poisoned with corruption/favorism. You are fighting futile game, my friend... Even if you DO survive, your days are numbered.

Sorry... But good wibe after all: INTEL is poised to inevitable fail because of this, and neither you, neither me can do NOTHING about that (which makes me very balanced/peaceful). OK?

@oir - OP here, my whole team appreciate my work except my SLM because of issues I stated. But unfortunately Appeal team must have talked to my SLM and he would have screwd as usual that's why the appeal got rejected. If they would have spoken to program managers and system as well as core leads I worked with, then they would have got the correct picture. It's sad Appeals team didn't seem to have checked with any of these guys (they are in touch with me and said they never were contacted by Appeals team). I think they checked only with my FLM and then SLM and no one else. Appeals team is missing a simple point, that FLM and SLM because of whom an employee has got an ISP, could be against an employee. They should check with other key technical guys of the team. Appeals investigation seems to be terminating at SLM which is wrong. We all know how Intel managers are, way to political.

It is very Intel's style letting new hires define their job scope on their own

Not really. INTEL from the very beginning defined my job (as 3 jobs in 1). They abruptly, after a year, changed completely my job description, not even notifying me about that.

INTEL is nothing but political pit snake, these days. Lot of self-inflated management EGOs flying around, similar to local street drug dealers mentality.

sounds like poor management and lots of changes outside your control. and you were made a scapegoat. Hard to believe your ISP appeal was rejected based on your description of the events.

Good job. Sometimes this happens ... especially during mass redeployments where dislaced groups are picked up by other groups. If you find yourself in an unhappy situation, dont wait for someone to fix it for you. Instead take it upon yourself to find or create a better opportunity

Very touching. It is very Intel's style letting new hires fdefine their jobe scope on their own. I personally like this approch, though it wouldn't fit everyone/

Starting with SL4, is back up by the HR guideline. Second SL4 is weird and seems to me improper (due to internal transfer).

IR means your manager doesn't want you in his team. I didn't of the mandatory SL5 after OOS IR. With the current ISP plan, CAP is useless.

I feel sorry about you.

Good luck!

Hey you are lucky you only spent 6-8 months here, imagine if you had 10, or 20, or more and had a family to feed, kicks to put thru college, mortgage to pay and got kicked to the curb for the first level 4 in your career.

BK and the management don't give a $hit about anything but some "numbers"

Moore's law is dead, the products aren't compelling, the revenue stream is shrinking, the profit margins are shrinking, get out and be happy you can tell a good story about how FUBAR it is.

You can at least say you have nothing to do with this one and just got on the wrong ship at the last minute versus been part of the disaster in the making for the last 15 years
