Sadly the losers will be the thousands employees of both companies who may lose their jobs while executives have golden parachute contracts. I blame the greedy shareholder who promoted the merger in the first place and the judge who was likely so naive to not understand Amazon is becoming a monopoly.

Save $300 million over the next 2 years? To make up for the money Ron just pissed away? I would say take it out of his undeserved salary, but that would mean we have to keep him.

BoD, put your idiot CEO (and all his cronies) on a PIP, then fire him, like he directed HR to do to so many hard working employees. No severance, nothing....

Save $300 million by laying people off to pay for your f---up?

$300 million in cost cutting....say good bye to your jobs

Lower prices to the midmarket customers.....we told you that years ago. But, Staples kept raising prices every quarter, with or with manufacturer price increase justification. We told Staples stop the nonsense with prices, bit, noooooo....you had to line your pockets. "Why are my prices higher than dot com?" Copy paper for $24.99 and you charge me $39.00". Greed

From the guy who posted here on this board about leaving on his birthday and detailing the insanity laid upon that crew at the Northern CA DCS center and it's corrupt self serving management. Karma is here today and everything that happens to the so called leaders across the board from this piss poor company all the way to the top levels.... You deserve to be thrown out into the street like garbage which is how you treated your hard working crew. You deserve everything that awaits now that this decision has been ruled on. No love lost here.

in February of 2015 I said the FTC wouldn't care about the retail side but contract would be the reason this deal would never happen. In December I still said this would never happen. Hell, I could have saved this company $250,000,000 but instead I was downsized. I don't have an MBA and I didn't go to Harvard but sometimes a little common sense coupled with basic reasoning goes a long way. Glad I dumped all my stock 3 years ago.

Office-supply retail giants Staples Inc. SPLS, +0.58%and Office Depot Inc. ODP, -2.72% announced Tuesday that they are calling off a proposed $6.3 billion combination after an antitrust fight with the federal government, an ending similar to the two companies' attempt to merge nearly 20 years ago. Office Depot announced that the two companies would terminate their merger agreement on May 16, after a judge Tuesday ruled for the Federal Trade Commission in granting a preliminary in--nction halting the deal on antitrust grounds. "While we are respectful of the Court's decision to grant the FTC's request for a preliminary in--nction to prevent our merger with Staples, we are disappointed by this outcome and strongly believe that a merger would have benefitted all of our customers in the long term," Office Depot Chief Executive Roland Smith said in Tuesday's announcement, adding the companies would not appeal. Staples and Office Depot also called off a merger attempt in 1997 after the FTC fought it in court. The two stocks were halted in after-hours trading after plunging in response to the judge's decision, with Staples falling more than 10% and Office Depot losing more than 26% before the ha

I really hope they let him go. Otis as well, unless the successor deals with him.

There is no way Ron was ignorant of Otis' behavior .... he was either apathetic towards it or was

complicit in it.
