Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

The slow death of an industry icon.

I left Xerox 18 months ago after 30 years service. For the majority of these years this was a great place to work. Great people, respected leadership team, great reputation, good products, decent wages and good incentive structure.

Now there is disillusioned staff, a leadership team generally made up of people who failed in previous companies who are being driven by someone who bought ACS, failing reputation in all business sectors, shrinking product array, stagnant wages and Xerox board focussed bonus plans.

Splitting the company in half sounds like cutting out the bits you do not want long term, more suicidal outsourcing with a hint of executives making what they can before further sell offs, layoffs and executive ego satisfaction.

It is a fact that in all of the outsourcing and layoffs that were undertaken to improve the company and make Xerox financially stable, not one example impacted the underperforming senior management.

In my latter years the internal bureaucracy grew, despite the recognition that it had to be decreased at all levels. Today there are too many people frightened to make everyday decisions, too many internal process changes and activities that do nothing to increase shareholder value and a lack lustre leadership.

I genuinely feel for the current employees and their future.

Let's see who the last man/woman standing is. We are on a sinking ship and after 37 years it breaks my heart

Well said, I completely agree. I'm actively looking too. I want to get out now before everyone is out looking for work at the same time. 15 years of hard work just to watch our jobs go to Guatemala, Manilla and India. It's only going to get worse and I'm not interested in going down with the ship...especially when the captain doesn't give a crap about her employees. Worse CEO in history.

I am terrified and looking frantically for another job before the sh$$ hits the fan. Management is so disconnected from their employees. Some upper managers are wearing 5 manager's hats instead of hiring 4 additional managers to increase efficiency and productivity. EVERYTHING slips through the cracks due to employees are not given the authority to make decisions. The managers are micromanaging the employees to death which allows inefficiency on every level. If you aren't in the special clique, our ideas are ignored or ridiculed until the clique members come right back using our ideas and taking all of the credit for it. Bullying tactics are rampant but no one will say anything for fear of losing their jobs. Ursula is making visits to different project sites, but do you think she takes the time to meet the employees of the company? Heck no. She can spend time in Cuba with Obama, but she can't spend 2 minutes meeting and greeting her staff that puts millions in her pockets ever year. She is a lame duck CEO at this point, but, she could do the right thing in engaging with her servants. The layoffs are due to begin any day now according to the internal webcasts to the company. How can any employee be effective at their job while waiting for the axe to fall???? Borrowing 1 billion dollars to split the company that is due to be paid back this year? How is that going to happen while the company is not meeting its financial goes? MASSIVE layoffs. Prepare folks. The End is near.
