Working people turn to unions to protect their rights, improve their working conditions, pay and benefits, and to give them security on the job. Union representation means having someone who will stand up for your interests at work. It means having a voice, a way to say to your boss that the concerns of workers are every bit as important as the company's bottom line. And workers today need a union voice more than they ever have, with corporations giving workers less and expecting more from their employees than ever before.

Mine too. "My problem is devotion and dedication to a company that was once great. Hind sight is 20/20 so young folks listen to the comments and remove yourself from a toxic situation."
AMEN to the last comment. Luckily my spouse has had a union job for years, worked hard and received great benefits. can it come crashing down? YES. We have had great union years, not living large but secure. My job now has no sense of stability or future. My problem is devotion and dedication to a company that was once great. Biding time toward retirement that may never be seen. Hind sight is 20/20 so young folks listen to the comments and remove yourself from a toxic situation.
You're right about unions not being able fix the financial damage done by clueless management. What a union does do is hold management accountable. As it is today, if the family or their managers want something from the staff, they take it. They've taken jobs, careers, benefits, wages. Without a union in place to represent ALL the workers, management has no check (except the shareholders). If there were active unions at follett these past 3 years, we wouldn't have seen the carnage we've been forced to watch.
When the work force is fractured (like calling people pinko), management does whatever it wants. With a united work force, management wins a partner to ensure the health of the company is everyone's job.
I would certainly join a union, Unionize NOW!
Unions are great, but they can't fix the financial problems and continued poor decision making of the company. Certain parts of the country are union strong and other parts would oppose any unionization.
If you find a better offer take it, til then strive on!
Go away, pinko.
Union workers can afford to pay dues. Their pay is higher and they know that they'll have a job tomorrow. Unions give labor a seat at the table. Once unionized, mgmt can no longer act without regard to their workforce. Unions give the working person an avenue to complain when a working relationship becomes abusive. Unions are the leverage workers need when the employer believes the worker is disposable.
Union today!
Now this is funny. Unionized college students running our stores. LMAO!!
I agree. However, how the employees are treated isn't. Just curious, how many dead weight executives were riffed? I can name a few, that in my eyes, don't bring a whole lot of worth to the table.
Look no further than the teachers union . Unions are not as strong as they used to be . Follett is trying to eliminate the union in the warehouses sooner than later . You cant expect a family owned company to hand out bonuses and not make a profit . Its not realistic .
haven't seen a cost of living increase in three years because of declining enrollment I am blamed for. Company made my choice flipping burgers or a visit from rippy the razor despite good education and a degree. A union would only make it worse. Thank you, but no.
Unions skim workers salary, via Union dues.
