The question is will the Legacy of Cabela's (the family) in Sidney be positive or that of a carpetbagger in the south. I was with Cabela's when culture was king and that run ended around 2013-4. The Cabela's name meant something of respect and quality in sidney and the US and frankly the Cabela's Family valued that highly in the Sidney community. Dick passing in 2014 was the turning point for these changes. the question now is if Jim and Mary care about the legacy or not. What we know is Jim put all his stock in a trust late last year so he knows the sale is coming (tax protection) and if the Cabela's board is in the pocket of Elliot, its a done deal to the highest bidder, Legacy be damned. My legacy is having been at Cabela's when it was a great place. My fortune is I left just before the stink bait hit the fan. This may be another case of corporate raiders killing a great company for the money. But killing the culture, the town and maybe the future of outdoors is just the tip of the iceberg.

Cabelas is a complete joke. With your empty promises and lies. Why don't you tell the real story of what your bullshit company is doing to families.

Cabelas won't release a number affected because they are busy selling dreams of new opportunities. By the time this last hundred people figure out it is a farse their coworkers will join them at their oceanfront property in Arizona as this company is pieced out for profit a department at a time. Everyone has stayed nice and calm with the false promises of hope sent down the pipes by the uppers and the lapdog local media with the nothing to see here attitude. You won't get a quote of the number impacted because they're too busy pretending that only a handful will be impacted to keep the calm so they can finish their dirty deeds.

I wrote about this in the World-Herald yesterday, but Cabela's would not tell me how many people were affected and said that "many" of those affected would be offered jobs with Quad/Graphics. If anyone wants to tell me the real story, please get in touch with me. 402-444-1414 or paige.yowell@owh.com. I will protect your identity.

The article on ksid is very misleading- these poor people were told by a slideshow- with no explaination and only about 1 out of 4 were given consideration for employment w/ this company- and they are not guaranteed employment in Sidney ..., this is very similar to what they did with the TAGS employees- 3rd party that came in and " merged" .... and now they've decided to close that facility-leaving these poor people wondering what's next- and still no word on the shareholders meeting ....

The positive thinkers of Sidney that put their trust in this company and told the negatives thinkers that nothing will happen. How do you feel now? The town of Sidney just got hosed by this company and who is going to end up paying for the pool ?

I've been there. No how you feel. I am no longer walking on egg shells wondering if I have a job or not. I feel sorry for the rest of the employees who are still there. They do not know when their last day is there. Only worries I have left is finding a new job. Put your faith in God. He will get you through all this tragic that we all are going through. The big people out there that are putting all us through this are the ones that have to answer to God when they are gone from this earth. Sorry to hear about all of you who lost your jobs. I know how tuff it is I am right there with you.

true tensions are extremely high, and emotions are running hot. The working class, those who are paying the painfuly high taxes and who are bearing the brunt of this situation are at a breaking point. You can see the fear in thier eyes, the fear an the uncertaintity of what future holds for them. The elite of Sidney, those in govermental positions with the city as well as the county, coupled with those who work at the city and county who act with impunity to the needs of the public. The upper crust of the 'hill' who walk around as though nothing is the matter, all the while crying all is well all is well, trust me trust me i will tell you what you need to know. The stranglehood on the media to keep the populace in the dark as it were. These are well engineeed responses to keep the atention off of what is truly happening. The selling out of Sidney. A community that help Cabelas become what it is. A commnity that gave in to every whim and desire of those on the hill.

Soon all that will be left is a carcass and empty shell of what was the bright and shining star of the panhandle. Thousand of lives ruined, dreams shattered, hope forgotten. Because of the greed and selfishness of certian individuals with the ultimate entitlement attitude. Some of whom do not work on the hill but are in private business, private practice and leadership and govermental position as well as individuals on the hill.

You are already stating to see a true survival instinct and attitude take over. People are turning on each other, looking to thier families needs first. People are not helping each other as it used to be they are looking out for themselves an attitude that is very prevelant though out the community.

When the in fighting amongst he populace hits a crescendo then those who orchestrated this will make thier exit comfortable in thier future, leaving behind ruin and wreckage for tose who are left in sidney and a hefty bill to pay as well.

I am making my exit now, not that i want to, because i have to in order to survive and provide my famliy a safe and secure future.

Sidney has become my home I have raised my famliy here, made freinds here, and it breaks my heart to have to leave for my survival.

Thank you to the selfish elite of Sidney, I came here with hopes and dreams and leave with sadness in my heart as I have to rebuild and start my life over.

I can tell you tensions are high here in Sidney. We watch our friends leave with uncertainties ... We see the CFO walk around town with his wife unscathed as he continues his employment while hard workers wonder where their next paycheck comes from. This is not a rant on unfair treatment - this is real life where the company harbors a lifestyle that feeds adultry and greed. This, at one time, was a wholesome family oriented business. Now we sit back and watch what we supported as a community slowly kill ours. Sad ... yes.... get ready Sidney. A man's true charactor will soon show.

Are these the same fines levied by a couple of months ago against the bank and the cfo?

I would like to say the trust is broken already. And to answer the accusations would mean to take responsibility for their actions.

With Cabela's Inc annual meeting of shareholders taking place sometime in June of 2016, it will be a perfect opportunity for shareholders to stand in front of the CEO and ask questions while the Board of Directors is present. After all the company has been very silent about all the accusations over the last year, interesting enough they will have to address this at some point, keeping in my nothing goes away. “However the date for this particular meeting has yet to be announced, which again is interesting because typically it's not a secret and is public knowledge by the end of April on the Investor Relations Website of Cabelas.com. Sadly this yet again leaves the public a horrible opportunity to speculate on the future of a company that is much needed in the region. My question is this, when will see a public statement from the executive team on all the accusations???? Don’t forget I was in charge of that meeting for 6 years and I understand this is public knowledge for publicly traded company. Also, why haven’t we heard anything on the SEC fines that the company was faced with…. SILENCE WILL KILL trust that.

A very sad day for Sidney like they need any more bad news this just puts one more nail in the coffin so to speak . Right now the whole situation in town is beyond tense. To watch the community I called home for most of my life disovle into a state of fear , apathy and back biting has brought me to tears.

The elite off Sidney have succeed in their diabolical plans . To keep the public blind to the truth, by festering rumors and unrest . And by placating the populace with trinkets (aka water park and so on). Whilst all the while selling the soul of Sidney for those own personal gain and profit.

Congrats to those in power. You are good students of Machiavelli.

Quad/graphics is the vendor that handles all Bass Pro printed flyers. Also one of their corporate event sponsors.

IT, check. Catalog, check. Call centers, on deck. Merchandising, in the hole.

Look at all those Quad Graphics jobs that don't exist for the current staff that will be impacted by this.

On-Call electricians, physicians, LPNs, and Machinist III who have been hanging out in the Cabela's creative department might find work.

This is like what Disney did to their employees. They brought in foreigners and forced their current employees to train their replacements. Then they opened less than 10 new jobs and boasted about how "former employees" could apply for "new positions."

Cabela's sold to a company who will outsource 90% of the work and open up a couple jobs for the 100+ people who lost work here to apply for while Tommy boasts about what a wonderful opportunity this is. It's a great opportunity for your top people to make some quick cash. It's not so great for the families you put out of work in a town with little to no opportunity for them. Don't believe the article about the "great opportunity." This is 100% about the bottom line... they don't want to look like they outsource so they hire a different face to do the dirty work. How very Progressive of you, Cabela's. Isn't progressiveness in America the bees knees?

I'm sure the rest of the Cabela's staff will be joining you in the soup lines soon enough.

Quad is the new monopoly. Bought Brown too. Another example of a huge fish eating a smaller fish. The post about the age of servitude is correct. Watch as this continues to happen to people across the country as more and more businesses are dissolved. I wonder where the wealthy will spend all their quick bucks when they ruin their own country.

What IS Cabela's, if not their magazine? It is a sad day for the company, indeed. Selling all these jobs to a company who will turn and outsource the work to another country.

Can I expect to see this on KSID?

Didn't suspect that was the case.
