Want to motivate associates? Sorry- you can't .. Motivation is internally driven, and what lies in the remaining employees is fear and mistrust. Start by taking ownership of the sh--ty choices you made, referring to Upper management . Yes- we all contribute to the culture, however it is YOU that is tasked with setting the tone and making beneficial choices for everyone and I think we all agree- you suck at it. Start there-own up to it and admit it. Relationships start with trust and honesty, you don't seem to support either right now.

I don't care.
Viva la revolución!
Do you ever wonder why Follett endlessly recruits for its manager trainee program?
I'm jealous. You have staff!!!
Is it me being a new manager or has Follett always dumped task after task after directive on the store manger, then cut staff & expect it all to get done in a 'timely manner'?
They're motivating me to update my resume.
Follett execs never anticipated an employee revolution. But it's here.
You can motivate employees by treating them with respect, giving them challenges, treating them with respect, and giving them the opportunity for growth.
You can demotivate employees by doing what Follett has been doing since MLS, SS, GT, and DG have done.
Follett has worked hard the past few years to demotivate employees.
