My job is ending at the end of the fiscal year but I am considering leaving sooner. Does anyone know if it's true that my health insurance will stay active for the month of my last day? For example, if my last day is August 2, will my health benefits continue through August? I remember last September when jobs were lost this was the case, supposedly...

All the above is correct. You have coverage up the the end of the month you left and can elect Cobra coverage up to 6 months.
Your insurance will be up at the end of your last month (so if you leave August 2nd, it will last until August 31st). I was told that my benefits card would remain active for 6 months after my last day (never tested it). You can, supposedly, also pay money after those 6 months to keep the card active (again, don't know for sure since they never sent me the information they were supposed to).
use your benny card money up asap
-yyj is correct, your benefits are active up until the last day of the month that you leave.
But may I ask something. How do you know your job is terminating at the end of the fiscal year?
Yes, your benefits will stay active until the end of the month in which you leave the company
