Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

My status suddenly changed from individual contributor to manager...is this a sign WFR is on its way?

So....I just passed my 15 year service mark, the last 10 of which have been as an individual contributor. No one has any discussions with me and, as far as I know, my position is not changing. My job code has not changed. My manager has no clue as to why my change in status to manager....WTF?

Is this a new way to get to a WFR? After all, I just passed that magical line.

If your own manager says he/she has no clue; this is a disturbing thing.

Manager of what ? If you don't understand why you are promoted / reassigned, then who knows...

I'd probably be afraid of getting fired, but it sure would be tempting to view all of the managers only sections of the Intranet.

It may be a way to save you by justifying your salary level if you were at the high end of the range for Individual Contributors. Those at high salary grades appear to be targeted for WFRs in our group.

If I were your ex-peers, I would be very nervous right now. They probably "saved" you - at least for now.

Yeah, it doesn't really matter. Yes, having subordinates helps, but I know of a case where someone was cut anyway and some of their team was reorged into other teams.

Does it really matter? As a soon-to-be-former HPE employee, I would get my resume ready and my professional network on alert for new opportunities, regardless.
