Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

National Oilwell sees better days ahead but not ready to call a bottom Clay Williams

NOV cut ~6K workers in April, or ~10% of its workforce. How many employees left world wide ? What is the total number of employees let go since the start last year ?

NOV is an excellent company with some great people but the key is to get the RIGHT PEOPLE in the RIGHT PLACES and we could really do good things. Right now getting things lined out is Critical.

Our Company's Future is at stake. Would like to see NOV use this time make things better.

It is very hard to make sound business decisions when the "mechanics" of it are not understood. This is especially true with Purchasing of Components. Have been watching this for a while and makes it hard to have a positive attitude but while our people do the best they can and have the very best intentions - simply very hard to make good business decisions if comprehension of the manufacturing processes and capabilities required are not fully understood and without understanding how things are made and how shops function in general. This is especially true right now. There is not 1 shop we deal with down less than 20%, most are down over 50% and not just in people - also skills and capabilities. Without understanding this and being able to "read" the shops - just relying on data which past data simply will not help much right now. Have almost everything I have invested in our Team - Have a vested interest here in our success. Would certainly like to help our company more. Right now while we have the time is the best time to fix this. We could improve our Quality and Delivery by getting the right things to the right places and now is the time to sort this out but we simple do not have the right people in the right places at this time to get it done and the folks in charge while very good Managers -- do not have this technical background to make it happen - this support is Critical right now.

Hope one day soon to have an opportunity for myself or another person with this background to help our Team make things better and build the Future - for NOV.

We could do great things to help build NOV for the future.

WE CAN DO IT WORKING TOGETHER !

They need to start cutting from top to bottom. That is where a majority of the issues are. Insufficient management hiring friends friends and kids are killing that company. Hasn't been the same since Pete left. He was a person of relationships and truly made employees feel they were worthy.

80% cut at SHP Houston. If NOV ever gets busy again, they will have no one to do the work.

It's sad but they really need to cut more and maybe keep people who are extremely good at their jobs instead of keeping people they are friends with if they keep doing that then they are never going to have the best workforce and will constantly put everyone's jobs at risk.

I do not think even NOV knows how many in the payroll. This company is a mess. Way too many small shops and office buildings scattered all around. Clay so as that he will consolidate but not happening fast enough to stop the bleeding.

They will cut more. It is already in the works. More cuts before end of Q3.
