Is there any warning to those who were getting laid off or was it a complete surprise shock? Do they give you any explanation? With layoffs supposedly coming around the corner, just curious if I should start packing my cube early. Any input would be greatly appreciate and good luck to all of us, we'll need it.

Don't believe having 15+ years experience gives any degree of security, unless you are 50+ and then you may get some degree of safety (not immunity).
It will be surprise for many, few might have got some hints during there Sync-up discussions or 1:1 discussion whatever you call it. But list seems to ready and gone to higher up for approval
Cisco loves surprises like account teams like CAPs......because it's the only way to make products work and get features customers been asking for for years.
If you don't believe in brown nosing your management, have 15+ years experience, you should always be ready for layoff. My personal experience with layoff has shown that, usually there is no warning and comes as a complete shock. Usually there will be some people in your group, the manager/director's favourites, who will have an idea regarding who is going out. A 1:1 during layoff season is an indication that you are out.
Nobody should be surprised about anything here
If you are surprised, you've been living on a different planet. Just look at 1000s of posts on layoffs.com here - this board has been filled with warnings since July
