Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Still overbuilt by far.

Does the company need NRM, STST, and Penang for sliders? Does the company need 2 design centers in SHK and LCO for a dwindling portfolio of enterprise products? Not really. I'm sorry, but if I was running this company, I could close at least 2 design centers, a media design center, and a slider fab without losing a step. I could also cut 50% of management. If that was done, this company would have outstanding positioning for the future.

As said before NRM & STST are not slider factories NRM had a small head development section. If this person was in charge I would be worried that they didn't know what their factories actually did!

Man you can get great sliders at Hooters, plus you can get hamr'd there too. Why re-invent the wheel?

You would save money in the short run, but your future prospects would be no better. The simple fact is that conventional perpendicular magnetic recording has run out of gas, and HAMR is always 2 years away. No amount of hiring or firing can change that. I'm familiar with the roadmap, and if you think things are bad now, just wait until 2018.

Also, NRM and STST are WAFER fabs, not slider fabs like Penang.
