Thread regarding Follett layoffs

What are you prepared to do?

One group of people who are trying to hang on are those within 5, 10, 15 years of retirement. My question goes to that demographic; what are you prepared to do to A: keep you job through retirement, or B: find a new job as an older worker?

3 years ago Follett purposefully targeted older employees. They were given duties that they were not suited for, given no training or direction, written up, "coached, publicly criticized, and either fired or forced out of their jobs. In either case, no severance, nothing but, "don't let the door hit you on your way out". What happens if the renew their purge? What are you prepared to do? Why wouldn't you do that now (as opposed of waiting for Follett to brutalize you?)?

The only employees that are left at Follett are those to scared to move on. Those that take comfort over rewards and self respect. Regardless of age, it takes courage to move beyond your comfort zone. If they haven't left now through all the brutality and disrespect from senior leadership, why would they leave now. The only way they leave is to be shown the door.

Great insight. Let me paraphrase; there is no good reason to stay. You stay at your peril. Management has shown no loyalty to others, like you. There is no reason to expect they'll extend to you the benefit of loyalty, either. You're not getting younger. The economy is as robust as it's been since 2007. Time to finish your working life somewhere else.

The smart thing to do is leave if you have the opportunity. If you have enough time in claim retirement as reason for leaving Follett. Take the other opportunity now rather than wait . Yes, older workers are discriminated against in the workforce. Don't let Follett get rid of you first, or reduce to part time status lock in your retirement. As older workers we have loyalty issues that are just a part of generational upbringing, BUT we need not be ignorant to the facts that today's companies do not have the employee appreciation of the past. Value yourself and leave.
