Layoffs today in Systems. Unless you have Cloud skills, I'd steer clear.

Sales is a revolving door. Support mostly outsourced to Romania, India, Chile, Costa Rica with a few other US locations. Every year I have been with Oracle, our team looses one or two engineers. I am still employed so I don't know what's the criteria for being fired or rif'ed. If you work on non revenue product... your job is on the line every quarter. If your job is related to "Cloud" you are pretty much in a safer spot at Oracle.

What is Oracle review process like? Do they regularly layoff or fire? Trying to cover all basis. I've had to move two times already due to downsizing.

Customers are buying Sparc for consolidation and virtualization to replace their legacy sun hardware. Oracle owns the IP so they are aggressively pushing it for security and cost. If you like warmer climate, Santa Clara is better and lots of tech companies you can jump to, not that Boston/Burlington doesn't.

Would santa clara be a safer bet? I'm hearing a lot of Oracle needing to catch up on cloud and sparc is not an open source platform. Sounds vulnerable to the Amazon, Google and Microsoft increasing competition.

Other analysis about Oracle being behind on cloud and customers lack of buying into Oracle cloud.

SPARC sales is picking up especially Engineered Systems. If you can join in R&D in Burlington or Santa Clara...go for it. Oracle has great benefits and a lot of support groups if you are willing to navigate around the Big Red Machine.

R&D hardware side with Sparc development and optimization on East Coast. Heard many rumors about future of Sparc and company benefits seem substandard compared to Bay Area. Any thoughts are appreciated.

What are you looking for? Support? Management? If you are young, don't think about joining. I can tell you that ex Sun management created a moat to protect themselves and friends. Bullshit metrics and goals to justify their existence.
