They want the job to get the related big payout. Although MLS and DG are gone, their salaries over their tenures were in excess of one million each. Same reason RG came out of retirement to manage Follett......money grab.

Why would anyone want to take the job? Company is on a downward spiral. The next president would get another three year contract, but won't turn sales around. So if you take it, you already know you'll be fired at the end. Nice to put a title on your resume, but realistically, only a loser would consider the position. An insider? Maybe - they would not pay them as much, and get someone who stuck around through purges. There are a few people who could be promoted within Follett. Not that it would be the right fit, but it could happen.
