Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel's simple management structure

We know Intel is a company on management steroids, but how had it become this way, so bloated, do much red tape, so political. It is to the point nobody can do their jobs. This all comes from the top down. Management starts by promoting a personal a--kisser "go to" guy who is always on-call and will react to their every need. This is a person who will always come through with the five point PowerPoint presentation to save his managers a--. Now just multiply this by the total number of managers and you can see how they have become disconnected with their own employees. Employees are mere sheep readied to be slaughtered whenever the situation demands.

Incompetence and arrogance from 20 years of little completion yields a truely horrific cultural that will only change when complete disaster has occurred

Have no fear 10nm will destroy LTD and TMG and from the ashes who knows what will emerge, LOL

Paranoia. General Managers, VPs, program managers, GLs all get ranked and rated by the organization underneath them. They get paranoid that someone is going to make a mistake, so they require everything to be approved. In the end, no one can make a decision. It also diffuses responsibility, as groups and teams "make decisions." Being very inefficient, manager ranks increase and everything slows down.

Related is the tacit knowledge that engineers have and use; this knowledge is in their heads and not written down anywhere. Managers don't have this knowledge, so they don't know exactly what the engineers are doing. But they want to know and control -- so the result is an ever growing list of "business processes", systems, forums, and meetings.

The number of VPs at Intel is reminiscent of DEC in their terminal days when they had 100s of VP positions created and product managers paid 100's of thousands (in mid 90's) doing not much. Last few years (3) Intel has been gung ho on promoting people to middle management ranks of VPs. That by itself is not a good sign mostly portending people creating silos and making agile and flexible operation difficult by design while all the time telling employees we need to change be flexible adapt etc without a clue about how. Bloated middle management is a sign of a down turn...
