Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

I was a part of the realignment...

It has to be understood that Lowe's had to make changes to ensure longevity of the company! Retail has changed! You have to compete on so many levels now!

Internet shopping has changed the way of the world and how consumers prefer to shop. The company was fortunate to see the writing on the wall and took immediate action to reconfigure the structure of employee operations. I was a part of the realignment.

I was fortunate enough to remain on board but I had to change my mindset to understand why change was truly necessary. Without the change business would have fell short and more stores would have closed and more jobs would have been lost. I know that it seems we want to do more with less but visit other retailers and tell me what you see differently! The same concept is applied. Payroll is your most controllable expense.

Company have to do what's necessary to ensure that the doors remain open. I know it's hard to hear and swallow but the truth usually is.

Your an idiot. Of course every company is in business to make money. It doesn't justify the fact 1000's of people are loosing there jobs after many years of service with know compensation or warning to find a new job. Like you said your lucky to be on board so you have no problems.

I have been searching numerous sites in the last few hours and this is the seems to be the consensus:

DM positions are to be cut to only 5. For those 5 positions, whether you are currently there or another dept., you will have to interview for the position.

ASM's to be cut.

Store Managers and HR's went to a meeting near your store. First order of business was they HAD to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Lowe's being publicly traded stock, if they were to tell anyone, anything, that could effect the price of stock, and since they signed the agreement, they would be terminated and could be fined, imprisoned or both by the SEC. SO, your Store Manager and HR will not talk about what they know.

What is known to your Store Manager is to be released January 17th. They will NOT confide with anyone as their own job and freedom is at risk.

Receiving and Delivery managers are likely to be condensed to one job. One will be eliminated.

Your in-house credit coordinator is likely to be eliminated.

Your HR is likely to be condensed from an in-house to a traveling HR that will work at many stores a day a week, and called in as needed.

LP appears to be safe at this point.

Cut ASM's will be given a severance package. DM's will not. It is expected that DM's will be downgraded to Sales Specialist positions if they are open, if not to a CSA, if no position, they will go to Seasonal, and have to interview for a full time position. Pay cuts are expected to be 10% to these personnel.

Ironically, with Lowe's having the worst web site, 95 IT jobs were cut in Mooresville NC and in Texas. Any new IT positions will be filled by an outsourced office in India. This office is already setup and has immediately started taking over IT work from that location.

Lowe's still believes that their biggest competition is Amazon, so the push will be for online orders. LowesForPros.com for the pro accounts to place orders online for pulling and in store pickups with a guaranteed time. All sales online will not be credited as the store sale in order to promote the creation of these sites (just recall the purchase of ATG or Houzz and how you were "encouraged" to promote these sites to your customer base). Many stores will be setting up a customer pickup area where online orders are placed, similar to the layaway area in Wal-Mart. In some markets, the customer will not be required to come into the store, they will call when they are parked in front and associates will take the items with a loading ticket to the customer.

And management believes all will be well as long as you offer exemplary customer service, work your order management, and keep doing a good job.

Nothing is worse than being a single mother and hearing all these rumors! I have been a loyal employee for 15 years and worked my way up. now we are hearing all mgrs are losing their jobs but can reapply to a company that just cut us loose. And to top it off we have to worry until the 17th to see if we even still have jobs. I have seen Lowe's go from a company that cared about its employees and customers to one that only is concerned with the top 1percent.

at what point do you quit worrying about wall street though and focus on your associates. Especially after your ceo gives himself a 8 million dollar raise. That looks real good right about now doesn't it. We have to change to keep up OR he could've forgone his 8 million extra that he didnt need on top of the 6-8 he already made to save countless jobs.... not the american way anymore i guess

I wasn't sure anything was happening until I saw this post. This EXACT same post has been placed on several websites that are tracking the changes. Leads me to believe they are trying to do damage control. Topix/facebook..and about three other sites have this same post.......

Lowe's IT is broken, the systems are antique and work worse than when I came on board almost 15 years ago. No "realignment" will work until the boardroom cleans house in the executive suite.
