Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Severance

After 40 years with CONOCOPHILLIPS I was laid off last year. I gave everything to this company and they drop me when I'm to old to go anywhere else and start over. They think it's ok to cut people and give them 60 weeks pay like it makes up for ruining your life. I'm still 1 year away from being able to touch my pension. 401k was all in company stock so it's worthless. I'm having to sell my beach house in destin to make ends meet.

Thanks a lot CONOCOPHILLIPS. You used me good. I hope Hillary shuts you and your sick oil company brethren down.

Sorry to hear about your being let go but after all that time at a company you'd think you'd have enough to say goodbye. Maybe too much spent on beach house and not grown up things like retirement planning. Putting all your 401k money in company stock. Good idea said the folks at Enron.

Retire already. If after 40 years working at COP you still hadn't built a sufficient sum to retire on, I question your judgement.

You are hung like a horse, so what's the problem? If it still works, count yourself lucky.

40 years , unless you started at age 14 you can touch your pension! It is called early retirement at 55. Also you can cash stocks out without 10% penalty. You might want to speak to s financial consultant Mr Troll

The post is a troll. Regardless, as noted by another individual, too old to be hired elsewhere. In the end the individual (real or not) will be better off than most in retirement but frustrating nonetheless in the interim.

If you worked 40 years at COP and got laid off, that is kind of like winning the lottery. Putting all of your eggs in one basket (100%) is f---ing insane!! After 40 years, after seeing the ups and downs of the oil patch, if this really was the case, you probably deserved to be laid off. Even during the best years, there were usually better investments in the COP 401 K plan. Basically, there are too many inconsistencies in this post. Other the OP is f---ing stupid (kind of makes sense for someone who would spend so much time at COP) or it is made up.

Bring your own fancy toilet paper, put the used paper in the paper trash, and do not flush your pee and/or poo. Go green!

I agree with original post, not old enough to retire and too old to start another career. Totally screwed for the next 6 years.

You poor bastard. They paid your last year of work off so you can now retire early and you still complain. Maybe they dropped you because your piss poor attitude was cancerous. Wishing ill on the rest of us because you had to leave a 40 year career early? If that last year was gonna make or break your retirement years then you weren't to smart to begin with and the larger picture of you as an employee is becoming clearer. #withagedoesn'talwayscomewisdom
