Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

SHP Layoff was thursday, shutting down the site and moving.

Sam Houston Parkway let go 50 percent Thursday, they triggered a WARN notice. Payed the laid off employees for 60 days and sent them all home immediately. Sugarland will be shutting down and it's product line will be split between 529 and SHP. The SHP site will be shutting down and moving into the 529 location as a seperate entity by the end of first quarter.

SHP laid me off as of 9/1. I have been on short term disability due to hand surgery & the sorry SOB's mailed me l a letter saying they were doing away with my dept & that I was laid off. Too sorry of a company to call. Been with the company for 18 1/2 years (16 years at Sugarland & was transferred to SHP.) This company will close its door bc of sorry management!!! OTHERS BEWARE!!!

They laid off 52 out of 145 employees, roughly 36% this round. They have laid off over 520 employees since January 2015 though, over 75% easily. NOV doesn't publicly declare their plant layoffs so it is hard to track, but almost all of there large plants have either laid off or retired 60-75% of the staff since 2015. NOV is struggling deeply with this latest downturn, and are cutting staff aggressively under the radar to save public face.

That's not going to happen. NOV is in severe trouble. If nothing changes 50% of the plants will close. One year is the deadline, if nothing changes by then, plants close. Maybe sooner!

That's sad, lots of jobs due to closing. So product lines for SHP & SGL will stay in Houston? Or will they go abroad to Russia, China or Mexico ?

Sad to see this happen. Hopefully oil supplies will decrease and drive the demand up soon. I got laid off earlier and there are many jobs available but there are far more many people applying for them. I knew that I was going to get laid off, I just didn't know when. The stress was difficult to bear. It was a relief, of sorts, to eventually get laid off. Well, good luck to everyone. NOV did treat me well in the end.
