Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Ken Lueers (President Canada) forced to retire?

One of the few respectable leaders at CPC and COP. He always seemed like a softie, perhaps he isn't ruthless enough for current times. Or perhaps he cant bear to see what is going to happen to CPC in the next year?

Should we take bets on when we'll be sold? I give it less than 2 years before there is no CPC. Ken will be missed, MH is going to be a brutal leader. He's coming here to close up shop.

CPC losing Ken - a solid Canadian leader - will seriously diminish any business leverage / influence it may have had in the Canadian scene. Who's left to carry the Canadian flag with any credibility? Or is US mindset all that matters?

Of course he got a promotion. A big fat promotion that he should honestly be ashamed to accept. But accept he will. Look out Canada...here comes Mr. Cost! Be sure to get him a nice ergonomic chair. His own wallet is so fat that it could cause him a repetitive strain injury when he sits on it all day long. Safety first people!

The real question is did the new president get a bump in SLG.

It is American who ruined COP Canada. The 300 percent cost overrun from $4 billion to $12 billion (for Surmont 2) is something no Canadian company has faced. The $200 million lost in the Surmont Debottlenecking project could have saved every job in Canada, and yet the owner of that mess (an American manager) is still there.

I was thinking something similar to 1kjp, but instead COP should be bringing in "Outsiders" to run COP from Houston instead of promoting the people who have put us in this mess to begin with. Mr. COST will cut expenses unsustainably low so the Canadian assets look that much more attractive to purchase. Only he'll have to do 2-3 rounds to get it right.

Sometimes you need to bring in an outsider to help right the ship. Canada has thousands of staff, no capital to spend, and falling production. Nobody there makes money at less than a dollar natural gas and it is time to realize that. Conoco cannot just provide social security for Canadians.

He's so entitled and nepotistic that he got his daughter on the gravy train payroll. Do ya think her supervisor will ever give her less than a 1 rating?

Well if they are planning to shut things down in Canada, they've certainly brought in the right guy...Mr. Cost himself will be so efficient.

I know him very well. Don't let him fool you. He knows all that goes on. He let lots of questionable behaviors continue under his rule.
