Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Is there going to be a PDC this fall?

Would be nice to get an update.

The only thing you can hope for is to keep a job at Chevron. Forget about getting a promotion in pay in the "lottery" PDC.

Ghost town in H-Town. More than 8,000 cuts. You must not understand macroeconomics if you believe you are going to get a big promotion at the PDC.

The job listings are about the thinnest ever. Something like 20 Petroleum engineering jobs and almost all are contingent on the incumbent getting a fabulous job at the same PDC. I don't see how a must move can be contingent. Must move means job or visa is gone. How will they stay if the contingency is not met?

For SJV, the FE PDR guideline is that you can only post if you are a "must mive", meaning your job is going away. Not really a typical PDC as being portrayed.

Right you are, 2ahz. Everyone knows this or are highly counting on more cutbacks in personnel. Have you followed the trend in oil prices lately? Chevron will track this metric, which is telling me right now to expect more layoffs soon.

PDC, reorg, layoff, whatever you want to call it. With October timeframe I guess they will call it a PDC. I wonder if the spring will bring another ESP.

All reorganizations result in layoffs to one degree or another. If it didn't, what would be the point in having one?

I hear of an October reorg. I don't know fully what it means though. I expect it is another layoff.

PDC will happen thus Fall, but there will be only 1 job open for every 3 employees needing to find one before getting laid off.

Yes, PDC will happen this Fall. Jobs are being posted. That is encouraging!

What does a "contingent" job mean? When a job is posted with the notation of "Contingent", it means it will be open for posting candidates ONLY IF the incumbent employee currently in the position is successful in posting out to another job and leaves the position vacant.

I haven't seen the notation of "New" on job postings before. I can only think it means a "newly created position". Maybe it's new to place a member of the friends and family group or its new because it's pay grade placement is lower than similar jobs with different titles. That's all.

My boss who is high on the food chain, transparent and smart, and had this advise. The headcount will still shrink on the Business Plan. The business plan was/is based on 52.50 oil and debt at current levels. We are in 40 oil for months now!

This makes more logic than any Chevron boss have spilled in a year lol.

When I was working overseas, I found out that my position was contingent. I asked around and the advice I got was start looking for another project, they are looking for someone to replace me. The superintendent was trying to get one of his friends over and into my position. Well I did find another project and was able to leave before they pulled the rug from under me, and leave me out in the cold. Start looking for another place to go. Why would they post your position, when you have no intention on leaving.

Yes, checking today I saw over six hundred jobs posted, mostly FE, HES and Operations with positions in locations all over the world. Most are not contingent jobs and some I reviewed are "new" positions. I'v been told that they are for "must moves."
