For those that were laid off in the last couple of weeks, sincerely my condolences. It'll all work out OK.
Question on health care benefits: Does it last for the duration of your severance or are your benefits terminated on the day you're laid off?

You can't bargain for extra benefits. The plan is what it is. You'd look like a fool for even asking.
Health benefits typically end at the end of the month, so I was laid off Jan 21 and my benefits were good until Jan 30. You could probably try to bargain for an extra month or so.

No and no. Health benefits terminate at the end of the month when your termination is effective. For people severed today the effective date is in 21 days or October 3, therefore benefits end at the end of October.
The health benefit ends at the of the month you are released.
