Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Has anyone successfully negotiated their severance package?

Looking for ideas/people to contact that have successfully negotiated their severance package.

Negotiation of severance benefits is not possible. They are set terms. Just like you can't individually negotiate any other benefit programs. Take the money and terms they are offering or sue and try to get more (good luck with that!). Remember to factor in attorney's fees and a lot of time if you try to sue.

I did just in terms of timing on the last go around. Got my departure delayed enough to move severance to 2016 and avoid 2015 taxes on it. I don't think the amount calculation is like negotiable.

Toss your money to a lawyer and it will still stay the same.

I am not aware of anyone who has negotiated their severance package. If there are it's been kept extremely quiet.

I am looking for a lawyer to review, one that is experienced in Alberta employment laws. It probably won't change anything but I have questions surrounding my termination.

There is no negotiation. Take it or get the minimum the government requires.
