About to report another atrocious quarter. Rumor has it more layoffs in April.
Company getting lean and ready to sell itself.

Another comment by a Bartlesville lover living in the past! This is a new era and Bartlesville is a dinosaur! We need to close Bartlesville down now!

Those who have time for long comments should be cut because they obviously don't have enough work.
Seems one post thinks only older people should be cut since the post mention move only some and if one can't find a job they can enjoy retirement. There are a lot of young slackers there who should be cut and move back in their parents basement.
What many in Bartlesville don't seem to understand, is that it's not just amateur of how much it costs to do the layoffs for so many. The ongoing cost of keeping so many employed in another city and state is now just too high. It was nice while it lasted to keep a historic former HQ site open but, this is a completely different ballgame now and it will never be the same game again. The days are over where this company can afford to run a daily air shuttle between Houston and Bartlesville, keep a whole other site open for functions that are pure administration, or continue to support community activities in a deadweight, high-maintenance small town that can't/won't grow. Enough is enough. Transfer to Houston the 10-20% of the talent that is truly integral to each of the functions they support, layoff the rest (and hope most find a place at P66 or are ready to enjoy retirement), and move forward, putting the investment into the right parts of our true business (not administration).
The cost of living in Bartlesville isn't that much different than Houston. Yeah there are higher property taxes in Houston, but there is no sales tax on groceries or state income tax deducted from your pay. Using the cost of living argument won't work in this situation.
The cost of closing Bartlesville is too great of cost. You cannot layoff everyone in Bartlesville and to move everyone is more costly. Plus the cost of living is much less in Bartlesville so COP can afford to keep Bartlesville an option for the lower wage jobs. Plus if you move some of the experts down to Houston good luck keeping them and not jumping ship. There is no competition in Bartlesville so it is easier to retain the 20-30 year experience employees.
I hope it's me this time. What a mess this is turning into. Never seen so much stupidity in my entire life.
Time to get real and just get the job done once and for all. It's too much to ask of people to keep doing their best at work when they have felt the cold blade of an axe at their neck and watched co-workers fall under that same axe for literally years now. All that drama and turmoil and still years later this site is still active and COP is still way over-staffed. Do it already. And start by shutting down Bartlesville and any other remote operations. More cuts still needed in Houston also.
COP has way more production than companies like EOG, so it needs more employees. However, by most metrics it is still way over staffed. Layoffs will definitely continue.
Your mom is getting laid off in April.
COP needs to get to 8000 to 9000 employees to be competitive with companies like EOG, Pioneer and XTO. Lots more reductions coming as asset sales continue in GOM and in international assets
It was mentioned before that another round will come 17 March or something like that so perhaps there is truth to this.
Unless things in the market make a major turnaround quickly, there will most definitely be more layoffs. April? Not sure it will wait that long, but maybe so.
There's a lot of scared folks in the lower 48 gassy projects. The rumor mill is flying that they are all gone early next year. Anyone know what is going on?
Is this April fool or what now?
