Thread regarding Follett layoffs

RM now can't make you work ot

One particular RM requires 6 and 7 day work weeks all the time. If you have Saturday events you are required to use vacation time if you want a day off during the week. I understand rush you may have to work 14 plus days straight before a day off, but when you have football games or admission events every weekend during the entire fall this RM says you are required to work the 6 days as being salaried. New structure does not budget for all the other I currently do. OT is only when the home office tells you. Customer service, campus relations, all going to suffer. This law was created to protect people making less than a certain amount. I even think it is illegal what they are doing. Who knows a good labor law lawyer?

Lawyers won't touch a case unless you have done all the work and deliver to them everything they'll need to win. Working folks ask lawyers to take all the risk. We give up 40% of the award (and expenses, sometimes), in exchange for them taking the case on a contingency agreement. That's their bottom priority. They'd rather represent Follett who will pay a retainer and then pay hourly. Follett will pay a lot to lawyers to avoid paying you anything.

This is a terrible company. It has done terrible things to employees. It's time to leave. Find another job and get out. It is not going to get better.

Follett is a very smart company. 5+ years of abusing employees. They have gotten rid of older workers and others for real reasons that would be illegal. They know how to find a reason to get rid of you where they will not get in trouble. Suddenly stupid is a common method.

According to labor laws, no one can make you work 7 days straight, let alone 14 days regardless of the situation. After the 6th day, it is totally up to the employee if they want to work the 7th + day, and that 7th day is supposed to be double time. You cannot get fired for refusing to work 7 days in a row. The company can get into alot of trouble if they reprimand or fire an employee for this reason. You don't have to be in a union for this to occur...It's just the LAW!!!

Good lawyers love class action lawsuits. The bigger the company the worse they like publicity being shined on their unethical methods.

Sounds like your RM s---s! 6 days during peak rush week and maybe buyback. I'd challenge them on staffing or store hours!

Good labor lawyers represent employers. The deck is stacked. Best solution is to find other work.
