I was let go in July. I got a better job last week by downplaying CVX experience. I told the interviwer CVX is a crap company who let go good pople. I also said CVX is soon going to be in big mess as it invested in major projects assuming $90 price.
The interviewer agreed with my honest assessment.
What can you do ... call out the bull sh--ters and those who know how to spin a story of success when reality was far from it ... stop playing the political game for what you might get some time in the future. All of the control freaks who claim they are managing everything when they are the cause of the chaos need to be flushed out
How can I contribute to the new organization to avoid these errors for reoccurring, you ask? If only I could fire some of the responsible management who perpetuated the mistakes. That's what I could do to contribute. But we all know that's not going to happen. So, back to trashing the company.
The reality is - trash talking about your former employer is a 100% guaranteed way NOT to get hired.
A better approach is to discuss the mistakes that you saw around you, and how you can contribute to the new organization to avoid these errors.
Some companies won't hire Chevroids because all they can do is CPDEP. No technical skills, no ability. Spewing CPDEP all day long. Other companies know what an engineer or PM from Chevron can do. Nothing.
I got a job yesterday. All I said at the interview was Chevron is dead sure oil.price will be $ 100 at the end of this year.
And the guy gave me the job as he liked what I said CVX is a stupid company.
I had a similar experience. I made reference to the silos of management and the poor projections on the price of LNG not at all estimating the over supply.
I interviewed for a job last month and got it with a 10% signing bonus after downplaying my CVX experience. It happened that the interviewer was very aware of Chevron and the crappy pickle they are still it. He made a joke of Chevron's investment mistake in Australia and the hardheadedness of keeping the dividend yield. I played along and was offered the job at the end of the interview. I was let go in July and now have a better job with a Fortune 100 energy company.
