Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Cobra

What is the current cost of Cobra insurance for those getting layed off, I opted for individual insurance in the market place when I got layed off but I am going to be paying about 650 a month for very high deductible this year, I wish I had stayed with the Cobra.

FYI . . . . the monthly deductions from my paycheck were ~$350, COBRA for the same coverage, Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO is $566. I was "lucky", I looked at the marketplace (didn't qualify for Affordable Care Act because I had earned over the limit) Humana, Kelsey-Seybold, etc. and they were also more expensive than COBRA.

the amount you pay for COBRA is the unadjusted amount from when the company + you were paying.

differences are

a) it's no longer pre-tax; but post-tax (so the bite out of your actual cash is going to be more

b) your company isn't picking up any of the tab; so that's all you as well.

You have to make a decision to go on COBRA within a month of being separating from your company; and then remit payments within about 60 more days (+/- -- it's in the legislation and it's an IRS rule; so no wiggle room).

So, if you were laid off > 3 months ago, chances are you're not eligible for COBRA
