Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Reducing pay from $70k to $50k

So now oracle wants to reduce the minimum pay that it has to pay people and still get subsidies from SAN Antonio from $70k to $50k, cheap, cheap, cheap. Must be these dial for dollars jobs with 50% plus turnover.

"I am ex-Sun and I've been getting regular pay increases, well above inflation."

Only if you are a "top performer" (say top 20%). Everyone else gets zilch.

Ex-Sun too, we worked for Oracle 6years, no promotion, no salary raise.

We don't like Oracle, but we could work in Sun-style with Ex-Suns, that's why we are still here! And finally, we need to say bye each other.... Sh**

I'm ex Sun and have not received any pay increase since purchase. Nor have any of my ex Sun colleagues. We stay for each other and because we are committed to our work. All of us are 50-62 and finding tech work is nearly impossible given our 'antiquity'.

@2ijc I'm not Solaris, not HW, and not in the USA. My section has doubled in size in the acquisition, despite many rumours to the contrary.

Sure you have. Just like Solaris is in great demand and SPARC hardware revenues are growing exponentially.

Oracle is famous among tech recruiters, and on job boards, for paying salaries 35% below market, for not giving any raises and not paying any bonuses.

When Oracle bought Sun, Sun employees joined at the same salary they had at Sun. This really pissed off entrenched Oracle employees, who on average made less (or so we were told) than the equivalent Sun employee. However, Sun employees never got raises of any significance. So after a few years it was costing to work at Oracle if you came in from Sun. Many left. Especially older people, replaced (if they were replaced) by "recent college graduates" who only stayed a year or so, and went on to more lucrative situations. Oracle is cheap, and they treat their people poorly.

Oracle is the minor leagues. They are where draft picks go right after high school and college. Any of the good ones will leave when they realize how underpaid they are. The only people Oracle will keep at that salary are the ones who can't produce anything. Great business model.
