My 2 year long project (joined straight from school) is almost over and I am panicking. Tried to find something new through my modest IBM network, it does not work. Here is a question for all of you with more experience - do I stand a chance of finding something using Professional Marketplace? Not sure if I have any other options, and I am afraid if I do not find something quickly the next RA wave (whenever it comes) will hit me.

Young, underpaid, ? Individuals with minimal tenure or low on the band scale are also impacted, in particular if the account you support is taking back managed services which equates to lost revenue and minimal future projects.. ultimately leading to the bean counters working to move your job elsewhere, eliminated or absorbed by others. Its 2016 and all ibmers/contractors have a target on their back. Jump ship while you can, the grass is greener on the other side.
Why not do both - check out GOM and look outside? You may end up expanding your network during the interview process for a future job. even if this job doesn't work out. At a minimum it may provide a broader picture of the industry.

I have always find new projects via networking or a manager.
In theory, you should be able to find one through the professional marketplace.
You can sort based upon all sorts of things from location to role type. Just put yourself in play for a role you're interested in. I do recommend doing so tho only for roles that have high win odds, preferably %100.
And the sooner the start date the more serious they are about looking. Some roles even state who to reach out to which could be beneficial if you're hoping to do something different.
Probably should tell your staffing representative and manager about it though so you're not going over anyone and causing problems with projects.

Leverage the GOM and focus on IBM's growth sectors (Cloud, Cognitive), perhaps there is a position that is a fit.
You have nothing to lose by applying for positions using this resource but it can be heavily competitive with applicants vying for jobs from all over the globe. Not too mention, HR due diligence of having the posting made public, and yet the position already filled within that particular business unit (e.g, promotion, term to permanent) - shady practices here.
Note: your manager will receive notification of any jobs applied to, but who cares, let them know how you really feel about the environment, with focus on job security and branching out.
This is maybe not the best place to come for objective advice. Of course you should try to use professional marketplace, that is exactly what it is there for! Don't believe all the naysayers, there are still opportunities for qualified people with the high demand skills in the US.
I hate to be negative or scare you, but that is the likely scenario. If you work for IBM and hang out here, it should be apparent that they are purging workers in "expensive" countries like US, Canada, England, Australia, etc and replacing with cheap untrained labor. It should be apparent that IBM is going the route of Kodak and other dinosaurs of the past. You are probably young, so may be spared due to a lower salary rate, but why bother? Why not put your energy into a fun place to work, with a future and dynamic management? I can't imagine wanting to work at IBM, especially with my whole career ahead. Like many, I'm just spending every day filling up my calendar with useless meetings I don't pay attention to, just hanging out biding my time and collecting my check until it's my turn.
