Why test Engineers when NOV run a competency program. Don't they know their own Engineers.

Keep doing your competency Fellas and work up the grades.

It's worth the chopper trip everytime.

Yes, things will pick up in the industry, when? Sometime in the future, your guess is as good as mine.

More worrying, will NOV be around when it happens? Personally, I think not.

thanks for your replies folks

yup i agree 25K a year (basic) for a skilled man offshore is sh--e, been there done that lads and worked in the conditions you face away from home ( middle east and Asia)and at NOV Dundee and at Aberdeen.

i wasn't referring to you NOV service guys only manufacturing based people, who are at home with their families day in day out. Yes its good money offshore when things are going well and ive seen (and lived in) the conditions you work in 12 hrs a day 7 days a week. You guys are worth all the money you deserve,

Good Luck People, it will come again.

Sorry to hear that wee man at the end of the day. U have a job u lose ur job it's very hard out there like u said 7.20p an hour .so be ready if there is redundancies again. Because people will struggle in Scotland and England. Things are going to happen u just enjoy what you have while you can and hope to see Christmas through . God bless you all .

Sorry to hear that I hope you get something soon mate.

However for a skilled engineer working offshore for £25k is a terrible wage. Nissan pays skilled engineers more than that but a lot of people who work for Nov live in Scotland so they will be all going for the same job which will be tough because companies will have so many to choose from. I hope everyone does get work good luck.

My heart goes out to all those folks losing their jobs in NOV ,especially Gateshead where i worked for many years and am now on the dole.

To say a £25K wage is a joke , try living on £73 a week jobseekers as that is what most of you will get for the first 6 months if made redundant, family or not. £25K is a huge amount compared to that.

You will get nowhere near £25K at Nissan and the like for skilled/Semi skilled work, At the minute this is where all the work is in the region. They are paying £7.35 an hour or £8 for shift work.

The oil industry is f---ed for now get over it.

After reading this post and subsequent replies I don't actually think anyone is putting anyone down I think people are just stating what they think. We live in an alledged democracy and so that is what people are able to do. It seems your posts are quite aggressive and whilst I understand your position you really need to chill a bit. The oil and gas industry has always been like this. If you are happy doing your job for £25k why care what someone puts on here, don't read the posts if they are getting to you so much. You never know if nov have decided to spend money on testing you all they might not make anyone redundant as you stated it's a global initiative so why are you so worried when you don't think that's why they are testing you.

Hey I'm all about equality, a women can be just as big a fanny as a man can!

I don't recall referring to gender in my post so please crawl back into your hole until you have anything relevant to the conversation.

My point is that whilst I find some posts on here quite funny, there are too many putting good guys down.

A lot of guys read this and get very anxious regarding their future, it'd be nice if folk would stop acting all superior, if you are reading these posts that you are either employed, know some one who is or have been previously employed by NOV.

If you got out in the boom times and landed a nice wee number, good on ya.

If you were made redundant, I was and still am gutted for you!

If you, like me, are waiting on the email that we are dreading, well, the last thing we need is to read some sanctimonious prick posting about my "joke" wage, it may be a joke to you, but it pays my bills and feeds my family.

I don't feel unfairly treated by the company, times are hard, unfortunately we are bearing the brunt of it, it's no different in any other industry.

Good luck to all in the coming months, but as they say, sh-- happens.

If the engineers had stuck together in previous redundancy rounds instead of only thinking of themselves then they would be stronger as a group now. Remember divide and conquer.

Good luck mate you are going to need it.

Big round of redundancies coming soon guys. Testing us Service Engineers should not be allowed. NOV is the worst company I have ever worked for, sooner I find a new job the better.

I don't think the person is spouting pish as you so eloquently put it I think they have made a very valid point.

It's extremely s-xist to assume it's a man it could equally be a woman or is that not possible in your mind for a woman to be part of the oil and gas industry. please have some decorum.

Come On THINK and ask yourself why they are spending money on this exercise you really can't be that naive. It's a shame people might lose their jobs but be realistic there's no point being in denial, you are obviously really worried but it's going to happen. You might be ok but I have to agree with the other post that £25k is a joke wage .

why do the job for that there are other jobs out there.

I agree that there will be redundancies coming and possibly very soon.

But I disagree that the test results will be used for this purpose.

It's bad enough that we have to go in and do these tests without fannies blowing in the wind on here!

Have a wee bit of decorum and think of others before spouting pish!

Ha ha ha brilliant management spiel so moving forward with the price of oil low and Nov making massive losses they have suddenly decided to test employees on their knowledge for no reason lol. Whatever happened to that global initiative 'competency' ha ha ha. Redundancies on the way where's my wooden spoon.

by

Post ID: @1lhl+KfYrqFZ

This a global initiative, it's to ensure all engineers are trained and have knowledge to a minimum level.

I don't think it is too sinister as they would have to disclose if this was the case before you undertake any test.

Just another case of someone giving the old wooden spoon an outing!

Bravo Sir, good effort!

Yes they are testing service engineers in Montrose on their "product knowledge" you have to be sceptical about the motive for this - I don't think any good will come from it
