I do not want to be laid off - nobody wants it. Yet, there are many rumors about potential job cuts here in San Jose.

no LR. enjoy the time. focus on work. dont spend time on forums like this.
At least you're hearing rumors. I didn't hear much in the way of rumors coming into the FY16 year-end earnings call. When our manager sent an email encouraging us all to listen to the meeting and provided a link to it, and then sent several of us a meeting invite for the next morning, it was suddenly very clear that a lay-off was going to happen and who was impacted. I don't think any one was surprised that there was an LR this year, but I think many were shocked by who was impacted.
I just wish they did like they did back in '11. Announce the LR in June, announce that the impacted employees will be notified the first week of Aug and share the details of the package so everything is transparent. Having 2 months to look for work before getting axed, or taking your chances by waiting to see if it's you is up to you. Announcing it on Aug 17th, then informing the impacted employees on Aug 18 or 19th is a bit abrupt. There were a lot of things on my plate that could have, and should have, been transitioned to someone else. No one on the team, including the manager, wanted to make me come in and transition stuff; I didn't want to transition stuff for the benefit of Cisco, but I also didn't want to screw over my co-workers/friends by leaving them in the dark on where I was on several projects.
Sorry but everything points to ongoing layoffs. They need to cut costs to keep the margins up. That's the only way to keep Wall Street happy.
