Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle tape anyone?

Is STK tape (T10000D) dead? Will LTO continue (reselling drives from others)? What about the STK libraries?

Unbelievable, telling of the total disarray at oracle - they can't even issue a clear statement about whether a product will continue or be discontinued. This is how morons run a company, into the ground I may add. Whether you're a customer or employee -RUN!

Yes, of course they did. Why would oracle want to stay in this business? What does it have to do with SaaS, which is they only business oracle wants to be in

Former Library developer here - I don't see how they can keep the libraries up and running with the slaughter they've done over the past year.

Not sure what the LTO market is for Quantum or Tandberg, but with HP out of the tape business, IBM remains the only large-scale tape drive manufacturer...

People don't buy based on tape drives, or Spectralogic would have been dead long ago.

I'd bet that IBM will discontinue its 3952 line soon and focus on LTO exclusively (they don't have much choice now or they would have serious anti-trust litigation coming their way).

LTO6 and LTO7 came out with reliability specifications (MTTF, 100% duty cycle) that equaled enterprise drives, and LTO8 will just continue with that.

It's just sad. Oracle should join the LTO consortium ASAP (maybe it's too late?).

Customers do not select technology based on big libraries, but tape drive technology.

Some customers ( f ex the geophysical industry) prefer enterprise drives and media.

I hear the E drive is dead, but D still kept going. Isn't IBM the only company making LTO nowadays?
