Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Simple Store

From what I have read about simple store. I have not been on SHC payroll since 2014 since I was laid off due to my store closing.

If I am correct simple store "lays off/fires" all full time employees except the HR Lead? How can someone run a back room without a properly trained person?

The store manager only wants warm bodies not employees with experience. For the simple store process. That is the location near me. I was looking at a job to supplement my other part time job.

Do you think that employees that are paid $7.25 an hour can properly do 605?, Receive vendors, ect? I would be shocked if you can find someone that is capable of doing that.

This whole process will fail quickly. What does everyone think?

Our manager is great working with our schedule. I think for one he is really nice and understands we have lives outside of work. But the other thing we are running into is that out of all the businesses within 25 miles of our store we pay the lowest wage and evewryone knows that you will not get a raise. Just by driving to the next county (10 miles) you can make a $1.50 more an hour and right down the street is Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, McDonalds and others that start you off 75 cents to $1 more than we start. Most high school kids will not work for Kmart because they can make more money anywhere else but here. The only appeal that we have is the schedule. But the problem with that is that you have to apply and be hired to know that. Other business in the area also have flexable schedules. We can't even hire enough people to work even if we had unlimited hours and payroll much less work with the crew corporate dictates.

qpr-- I agree with what you said but the problem is that no matter what restructuring they do there is no one left who knows how to do any of the jobs. Even our leads only know there little piece of the store. No one in our store has ever done receiving or any other job, they are all new. The managers don't know how to do the jobs. There is no time to train even if there were people who knew. So when they do hire someone to do a job they get frustrated and quit because they are expected to just figure it out on the fly. Not a way to run a business.

Thankyou for everyone's input. Since I have been out of SHC since 2014, I wanted to see if anything changed.

The Sears right across the street from my current job is being split in half by Seritage so they are hiring employees to help with the remodel.

I already know what I would be getting involved with. I know I would be making $7.25hr. The SHC job would supplement my existing hours at my other job.

Does anyone know how the process works for a Sears that is staying open but is having 50% of its floor space reduced. Does the store shift around or what?

To clarify to everyone I worked for the Kmart side. I went through a store closing also. Any advice on the Sears side will help.

WFM requires 2 weeks prior notice for requests off input by individuals. These request must be approved by SM or HR.

Otherwise, SM or HR must input.

The appeal of PT employees is 10-15 hours a week, and whoever that is left with full-time open availability which means, you are at their mercy. They can change the scheduled whenever they want too with little or no noticed Meaning you are damned if you do, damned if you don't. Not really appealing

Our DM told us that the appeal of pt at Kmart is the flexiability in hours you can work. We have many pt with limited availability. Fulltime positions are required to have open availability only.

At the last poster...

Yes, WFM allows people with certain privileges to input an availability

HR, ASMs, and SMs

Got to hand it to one of them to get it "approved" to be put in the system

I thought so. I am glad you guys allowed me to vent on here.

If anyone on here is an SM for either a Sears or Kmart store.

Here is what I want to know. Does WFM allow employees to put in for certain days they can they work?

"Or are there some managers left who will work with employees schedules? "

Dream on corporate, dictates what SM's do, can't do

Ok, thanks. Let me rephrase what I am trying to say. From my background in retail I understand what the truck process and backroom receiving is.

What I was saying was this. How can you retain someone with any type of experience in receiving, planograns, data, ect. On $7.25 an hour? You cannot.

When I interviewed as a rehire at a Kmart store near me I already knew how much I would be paid and what I would be getting involved with.

I was already working for a major close out retailer NYSE:BIG. Making $8.50hr. I was going to take this job with the understanding that this would be a second job.

I explained to the SM that I had already worked for SHC and knew how things worked. He did not care that I was already trained.

Has it gotten to the point that all SHC managers want employees to have open schedules? Or are there some managers left who will work with employees schedules?

No thats not quite what a simple store is. There will still be some full time positions. Softlines, data etc. There will not be back stock and truck procedure will be streamlined supposedly.

Can someone making min wage do backroom receiving . YES. Its not a hard job at all or very complicated. But will they for that? probably not. Being paid more than others does not make someone qualified or good at anything. Ive seen people promoted that could not do the job that the person before could do well and without extra help over and over.
