HA. I work in Troy, not for Sears though, and can attest to the fact that there has not been any lightning.

Overnight is usually for the stores closing day and getting the sales figures in line. If they do them overnight as they do sometimes it is hard to find if they software works because the stores are closed. They usually try to do the software updates starting at around 6am to see if there is a glitch and fix it before the day gets going. But as you can see sometimes as the update rolls out and the stores start to open and take customers they find that things don't work so you have to fix on the fly.

Was this the massive register update that they were going to do over Thanksgiving, just in time for black Friday? Agree with -- Why wouldn't this be done overnight? Caused chaos in the stores.

Why wouldn't they do that overnight?

It was caused by the software update that went out to most stores. Overload a 20 year old system with modern software is a pain.

@gdx. Is that cable close to 20 years old that runs from Troy data center to Hoffman Estates? Do you work at the data center? Is the equipment pretty much worn out in Troy?

Well to be honest the data center was built in 1998 pre bankrupt/Sears merger by Kmart. With the hardware not being properly maintained due to eddies cost cutting the hardware is starting to fail. The hardware is roughly 20years old +- . I am supprised it has lasted this long.

The only thing I can think of is the stress the 108 Kmarts and 42 Sears that are closing has overloaded the system and caused it to crash?

I do not know the actual reason. But my guess it crashed due to the age of the system and it being overloaded by store closing sales and lack of maintence.

What is everyone's guess?

And there's no head of IT for Eddie to blame anymore.

Oh boy it is the same problem as before. It lets you get to the online checkout option on Sears.com. I try to log in and it kicked it back. I thought so the exact same problem as before

This is interesting. I can pull up on my iPad at home. Sears.com/shopyourway.com/Kmart.com? Did it crash the registers again? Like before so Cash is the only tender accepted?
