Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Reason Target can NEVER make grocery business great again!

I have been in the grocery business for a long time and Target continues to miss the Bull's eye in this category for a number of reasons.

The disconnect between buyers, distribution centers (FDC) and stores is way to huge to even talk about.

Target recently hired very well paid Grocery Director- what do they actually do? Since they have no influence whatever and yet to make any meaningful impact on grocery category.

Out of Stocks - I thought Target had a good lesson in Canada regarding this but of course nobody seems to care. The market is extremely competitive and having out of stocks is a no no as that just sends guests to the next door competition.

Customer service, this is as bad as Walmart.

Target produce s---s cause we dropped the only partnership who knew anything about it and did it right...SuperValu. Went downhill the second we decided to step out on our own and be self distributors and self guided in a business we have no real expertise in. Food is not a widget. We put buyers in charge of food who have never been in the grocery business who formerly led the toy department, women's clothes, or god knows where else.

Great observations, totally agree and should I also add the level of confusion, everyone has an idea instead of leaving it to the professionals. They leave way too much cash on the table due to out of stocks. Assuming a store team leader was once in loss prevention, would they really know how to merchandise in grocery? Sadly, sad!
