Thread regarding Spectra Energy Corp. layoffs

Houston office question

Since we in Houston all know that enbridge is becoming spectra, rather than vice versa, could you guys give us some idea about what the culture is like? Are managers clock watchers? Micro managers? Etc? Including your group would be helpful for context.

About 95% of spectra supervisors should be fired from division manager to area managers and station supervisors!

Not sure how they will configure offices in the new setup. But in the past, each department could assign offices as they deemed appropriate, with the majority of them going to the higher ups. They generally gave the big offices with windows and nice furniture to VPs, and worked their way down to smaller offices for managers and eventually interior offices for leads or more valued SMEs.

If they follow the route of the PSCM floor (which was recently redone), only those with direct reports get offices. All of the offices are interior and the same size (even VP) and the cubes are three deep along the windows. The higher levels get window cubes.

Now with the updated Enbridge style org design I would imagine it would be more tricky to assign offices based on who does/doesn't have reports without major changes to the floor space. It seems like they'll be doing a lot of shuffling once they merge the offices.

Follow up question re Spectra Houston offices. What should Enbridge survivors expect? Rumors are no offices unless you are a VP and tiny cube farms. Any idea how much space is being reserved? In US you pretty much have to be an Enbridge employee on bonus payout date to receive your STIP. That day is today. Witnessing the beginning of a mass exodus. Good employees don't want to wait until they are walked out the building unexpectedly to interview.

Spectra folks are cowed and complicate - they just believe that only Corporate and maybe a few IT and PSCM ( Supply Chain or what ever they can themselves these days ) MAY be effected. EVERYTHING IS AWESOME. 90% have never through a merger, layoffs or anything of this nature.

Others who have been through this before have been looking and already have job offers and are just waiting until after STIP 2/24 to leave. Once we are the New Embridge it will probably be much like you have experienced. Demolitions of Supervisors and up, 2018 will be a reevaluation of pay scales. Then reduce to bare bones and ship what you can to Canada or India.

I hope it doesn't turn out this way but remember the folks that told us they LOVED US SO MUCH AND EMPLOYEES WERE THE MOST VALUABLE ASSET just took there Millions and left us. just sayin

Remember it's not personal just business. Hope everyone finds a place where your work is appreciated and you are not deemed like our CONTACTORS - "only needed as a temporary supplement"

There are not many clock watchers or micro managers. I have worked with many different groups and mangers and the majority of them are great. For the most part everyone including myself loves working for this company. There are always one or two bad apples though. We have very dedicated team of people here, and as long as you pull your weight you will enjoy it. I think many here are more worried about becoming Enbridge. This is a great stable company. We just hope it stays that way.
