I was told in 1992 that the company would eventually sink by someone from Hoffman Estates. I left shortly afterwards . I cannot fully express my gratitude to that person for saving me years of anguish.

anyone that has to ask for "insider info" is really in denial - this is / has been the MOST TELEGRAPHED non-filed yet bankruptcy, going out of business, store closure, employeee RIF I have ever witnessed - IT'S OVER - start your job hunt now otherwise you won't need to exist from paycheck to paycheck cuz' you won't be having one rolling in - 150k+ employees nationwide may not sound like alot but when a possibly significant number may be in your living area fighting you for that next employment opportunity its A LOT

I have been told OBU will be seeing a lot of cuts, told by a superior but how true they are I don't know.

Don't sit around and wait specially if you are living paycheck to paycheck because what is going to happen is you will be left living without a paycheck at all and it's not going to take years for that. Take the first opportunity because the longer you stay the less value you hold.

I live pay check to pay check and I make 6 figures (and no I'm not irresponsible I'm paying off some legacy medical bills of my very ill husband who cannot work) point is everyone's story is different. Advice to Hoffman is that we don't know what's coming but it will be coming over the next 4 weeks, there will be cuts. Interview now and start the conversations with other companies, thanks to everyone for posting on these boards. All opinions are helpful.

if you are living pay check to paycheck with medical bills, then you probably make minimum wage like almost everyone at sears does and have no insurance, like the last poster said, go to walmart, you get benefits and right off the street with no experience, most positions start from 12-16 bucks per hr..... quit asking how much time you have, its like your on a sinking ship and a small boat comes by and offers you a ride and you say no, i will wait for a bigger boat... heck at this point jumping off the ship and swimming to shore is a better option, Sears is Dead

I'm not a sears employee, but have seen and been part of my share of corporate downsizing. No one who knows anything of substance at Sears HQ will say anything in fear of being held legally liable, which is totally fair. But it is eminently, crystal, shockingly clear that Sears/Kmart is not long for this world. If you're an employee you need to be eliminating debt and saving every last penny, plus your number one priority should be to get a new job. I cannot think of any Sears or Kmart that doesn't have a Walmart within a few miles. Go there. Now. Get a job. If that's beneath you, ask yourself how that will look if you're staring at an email tomorrow inviting you to a meeting with HR where you know you will hear that it's over. Your NUMBER ONE PRIORITY is your job search. Do not let Sears make you into a victim, get control of your future. Move on. Please!

everyone knows we need to get out, it's not as simple of just getting out now when living pay check to pay check and with medical bills, I think the OP is looking for some insider info to help them in their planning. Knowing your department is to be cut next week versus next month or next year changes things a lot when job hunting and on the opportunities you chose to pass on or accept.

Seriously plan on being on the job hunt within the 6 month to 2 year time frame & if your young enough start looking A.S.A.P. once a bk filing occurs YOUR TOAST ,Kmart is history, Sears may have some salvage value - when a buyer can't even be found for KCD that's gotta tells ya' sumthin

I will be happy to provide you with some insight to Hoffman and what is coming to help you prepare for your family. Here is our personal advice from Hoffman: If you care about your family, get out of Sears now! why in the world would you even risk putting your family in the financial situation of waiting on Sears to implode after every post on this board. Sears WILL CLOSE, YOU WILL lose your job. At this point anything is a better option, even if you have to work 3 jobs at kfc, taco bell and dairy queen, heck being a bathroom janitor for your local store is a better option. If you are a manager making good money, you may have to start over somewhere and accept less money, but you done it once so you can do it again. GET OUT NOW! The ship isn't just sinking anymore, its been shot, set on fire, destroyed and left on the bottom of the ocean for the sharks to p ee on. SEARS WILL CLOSE IN 2017. Read again and let it sink in, SEARS WILL CLOSE IN 2017!
