Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Something to think about!

Macy's has been around for a while, so has Sears/K-Mart. They are both closing 68 and 150 stores respectively. The dynamics of retail has changed dramatically over the past two decades. WFM has had negative comps for the last 9 quarters. Just how much longer can we go? Or, does it look like a state of denial?

Many of the online delivery/meal service crap will go bye bye during the next recession. None of them are making money now, they are basically giving away the service to rope people into to auto ship programs...you think whole foods has a niche clientele? One or two will go public, make their original founders and investors wealthy beyond belief and everyone else will get caught holding the bag. Amazon is already huge disruption in retail, but it's years away from taking over grocery....hopefully some s---er will buy whole foods before then.

365 is a flop. It's dead.

I agree with the last post. The future of grocery is small physical stores (like the 365 concept) combined with a large online shopping/grocery delivery presence. Look at what Kroger is trying to do - they are the main grocer being reported as a buyer for the Walgreens-Rite-Aid pharmacies that are being sold. Why would a grocery store want such a small space? Because that is where grocery is heading - small shops where customers can get essentials and potentially hand-pick their meat/produce, combined with online shopping for the center-store items.

WFM will eventually sell off its Whole Foods Market stores, drastically expand the 365 store locations, and purchase a majority share of Instacart to handle their online grocery delivery.

Wfm will eventually disappear, the market share isn't big enough for retailers to profit. There's to much competition and prices are low. Someone has to and will buy out Wfm. The competition also comes from e-commerce (online) we will never get that piece of the market back. The companies that will exist are the ones that are able to execute something with e-commerce shopping experience and some sort of well executed rewards program.
