Kat used to work for Chrysler. I have a source that says she was fired there. She was in the development area and had 7 years of disappointment. I cannot find anything on the internet about this.

I thought she was successful in ISD (as much as was shared with the peons) so I find her leaving very suspect. I don't know if this is her choice, Doug's or the Board.

Anyone hear any details?

After six impactful years, Karenann Terrell, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO), has shared her plans to leave Walmart. Many of you are familiar with Karenann’s customer-centric leadership and the passion she has for people and technology.

Karenann joined us in 2010 as Executive Vice President of Information Systems and was promoted to CIO in early 2012. Her charter was clear – modernize our retail technology team and power our store and club businesses by enabling a seamless shopping experience at scale. Under her leadership, we have made great strides. Take a look at just a few of her contributions:

· Helped us respond to the changing needs of our global business by making core engineering and innovation a key focus for our retail technology team.

· Enabled fast and easy shopping through the introduction of self-checkout, wireless in stores and clubs, and – in partnership with our eCommerce team – brought to life convenience-focused services like Walmart Pay, Online Grocery, Store/Club Pickup, Scan & Go and Mobile Check-in.

· Ensured our store and club systems are always on and ready for Holiday peaks.

Karenann has also been a strong advocate and mentor for women in technology and served as executive sponsor of Walmart’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initiatives.

Karenann will stay with us until Feb. 24 to ensure a smooth transition – the go forward plan will be communicated shortly. It has been a pleasure to work with Karenann and I thank her for her leadership and many contributions to our company.

The RIFs have hit the news:

(Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) plans to cut hundreds of jobs before the end of January, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the situation.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer plans to eliminate jobs at its headquarters and regional personnel that support stores, according to the report.

Many of the eliminations will affect Wal-Mart's human resources department, a large team that some senior executives believe should be more efficient or whose duties could be handled by outside consultants, the newspaper reported.

Other departments could be affected as well, the report said.

The company said in September it would cut about 7,000 back-office jobs, mostly in accounting and invoicing positions at its U.S. stores, as part of a program it announced in June.

The job cuts follow the company's plans to invest $2.7 billion in programs that involve training its workforce and a series of wage hikes that took the minimum hourly pay for store workers to $10, part of efforts to improve service at stores and boost sales.

The company has also been investing to increase e-commerce sales and improve stores. These measures helped the company report strong online sales growth and a smaller-than-expected decline in earnings for the third quarter despite comparable store sales coming in below estimates.

Wal-Mart was not immediately available for comment.

Typically when ISD assiciates are let go, they are notified in the middle of the night via email. They are instructed to meet a supervisor in a small obscure room forba 30 min meeting. An HR type person is also present to handle the procedural side , answering few questions. You are then

Escorted out the door under watchful eyes. It is all very dehumanizing

I realize it js a tough job and by nature unpleasant. Hiwever to be treated so rudely is not vety respectful fir long term employees

To add, ISD is the IT (Information Technology) part of WM. (Computer people.) A RIF is a layoff, firing, rightsizing the company, etc.... At one time ISD, I was told, had around 3,800 'associates', aka employees. For the past 8 years they have been out sourcing the talent - hiring contractors. No idea what the head count is now. I would estimate that we have around 2,500 associates with the rest being contractors.
