Intel's fall from grace is not quite as fast as Polaroid or Blackberry but intels future is as certain as the tipping point has been passed.
They missed phones and simply refused to truly invest and adopt win at ARM strategy when they still could be competitive! No they are too late!
For decades they ceded the high end graphics market to Nvidia and ATI when they could have chosen to play really compete and now it is too late again.
Now ARM and graphics are the new technology and growth drivers and intel is simply not a competent player here.
TSMC and Samsung have ridden these to leadership and that virtuous cycle is unbeatable. Intel is now on the outside looking in. They look like IBM 25 years ago trying to compete with POWER but the virtuous cycle can't be beat from the outsides and if you join two late you can never catch up.
Intel still have money and scale. But soon their partners will realize beyond x86 intel is but a pretender. Even in process and manufacturing they have now fallen behind.
This is just like IBM's fall from grace on hardware and technology except it will be far faster and sudden as intel has nothing but x86 and server. They are the blackberry of this generation.
Those on the 10nm node in LTD will know the future first. 10nm happens in 2017 maybe intel survives,. 10nm happens in 2018 three are finished as TSMC and Samsung will have them beat and once beat they have nothing!
What a sad legacy, we had the tree iconic legends in Robert, Gordon, and Andy lead intel to greatness. That was follow led by the three stooges CRB, PSO, and the biggest and stupidest in BK that is taking intel to ruin!
Beyond the shriveling x86 client and less and less revelance in server performance the slip of 14nm and complete absence of any 10nm signifies the beginning of the end of Intel... could have happened to a more arrogant and disliked bunch of guys.
