I wrote something last night, for some reason, it didn't get posted. Here is another try.
Q was a fantastic place to work. Once, it was full of energy, respect, trying spirit and passion. Now, they are all gone. The company's success is built on a FANTASTIC Business Model. Q's legal team deserves a Nobel prize for that. There is nothing to be shamed of having such an advantage over everyone else, why not, superior technology plus legal team together had put Q ahead of everyone else. Except, today, things have changed. Most of the mobile players went away, at least left San Diego, Motorola, HP, Nokia (whatever happened to them), HTC, success or not, those guys played the game while respected the game rules (fair or not, that is debatable). Today, only the Chinese are still playing, that is insane. They don't, won't respect existing rules, or perhaps that is their winning strategy. If 90% of all profit go to Samsung and Apple, everyone else gets nearly nothing. Players are losing motivation, Qualcomm needs to feed these guys something to keep this game going. Shocking and yet not shockingly, both SS and Apple have their own chipsets. Q needs to keep some water in the pond, to keep some fish alive, in order to keep the fishery going.
NXP is an excellent move. However, automotive guys are extremely protective of their assets. They witnessed what happened in the smartphone industry, they will NOT make room for Q to do the same all over again.
Another hot topic is regarding Q people. H1Bs or not, Indians, Chinese, Eastern European, they are the ones working on the crucial customer delivery programs 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. I don't agree with some people judging them for where they come from, which visa type they hold. Give me a break.
The Q management team is a problem. These original mafia guys REALLY need to move on with their lives. Their skill sets once brought this company to its glory, is no longer competitive in today's dynamic business landscape. My suggestion for these folks is, go pursuit your childhood dream, to open a taco shop, to learn surfing, to do charity in Africa, etc. MOVE ON! Try to prove yourself another way, you have done it once, NOW, do it again, just elsewhere.
My last thought to Q, PJ, HIRE MORE AMERICANS. This is called corporate social responsibility.
May my stock again hits 80 in near future.
