Rumor is OXY is implementing a hiring freeze, could this be the beginning of something else?

Probably. I know some people who turned down offers and others who got better ones. The company is shrinking, so a hiring freeze would make sense. Oxy had a huge turnover of engineering staff after the 2008 dip, so maybe memories linger.
So they if they were interviewing people, wondering what happened to the poor guys, offers retracted? that is horrible!
Given how many professional positions are still open or get re-posted, even in a down turn like this one, what would a freeze do if Oxy can't get people in the first place? The majority of FEs who have come in are people who couldn't make it at major E&Ps.
